Recently picked up a new 2003 Mach 1 - late build (July03). When listening to the stereo noticed that the sound quality inferior to to my 01 GT. Also noticed that there were no surface mounted speakers on the rear deck.

Did Ford get rid of the surface mounted rear deck speakers for the Mach audio systems in 2003 or did I get screwed. When I looked in the trunk things looked okay as I saw the "box" and the two subwoofer amps.

Can any 03/04 Mach 1 or GT owners help me with this one - the dealer's playing dumb on this one.

I have an 03 mach 1 as well, and it is the exact same set up as the 01 gt I had previously. Mach speakers mounted on the rear deck, just as they were on my 01 GT. I just checked my window sticker, and the 6 cd changer with mach system is standard on machs, so looks like your dealer is pulling a fast one on ya! Hope this helps!

There should be two covers on the rear deck (package tray). You can just pull them right off, but the speakers are mounted below and are hidden by the fabric. I think they are actually mounted to the amp deck.

Thanks for the input found a part number for the covers - there's a left and a right and color keyed for the Mach 1 - they're not cheap.

Also, found out something interesting from the radio repair technicians for those who want to know if their speakers are blown:

On the Mach stereo unit if you're listening to something and you push the 3 and 6 button at the same time it will test each speaker/amp individually.
