My two lower door speakers in my Mach 460 system are blown for the most part or at least junk. Can I replace these with an aftermarket speaker? Because I have heard that you cannot put anything other than Mach 460 equipment on a mach 460 system. Is this true or can a go over to Best buy and buy a couple new ones?
Thanks alot.

Me and my buddy's 95 GT have the same problem. Those speakers must be notorious for that. i don't see why you couldn't, I plan on doing it when i get some extra money. If you go on crutchfield you can look up speakers that'll fit in your car and they ask if you have mach or not, so I figured if you couldn't put aftermarkets in there they would have said something.

As long as the speakers you buy can handle the power that the mach's amps put out (which isn't that much compared to what most aftermarket speakers can handle) then it shouldn't be a problem. I would also like to hear from someone who knows for sure or has done the swap before.

It is just a 6x8 speaker. The only thing you will run into being a problem is that they are crossed over for just the bass. So you only need a speaker that will play bass or a 2 way that is cheap because the highs will not come out of it. If you are not getting any highs up front, you may need to change the tweeters out too. That is a problem. The size speaker they put in there is odd. I ended up gutting the speakers there and installing some aftermarket tweeters in the OEM brackets.

Pioneer and Kenwood both have direct replacement speakers in 6x8 for Ford.

Something you should know is that the amplifiers have an ouput resistance of 6 or 8 ohms or something like that, while most aftermarket speakers are rated at 4 ohms. Therefore the aftermarket speakers might sound much quieter. So your tweeters will be loud while your bass will be quiet and it will sound like crap. I recommend just going on ebay and buying a set of the original speakers for $40 or something like that and you'll retain the stock sound quality if you like it the way it is.

That is exactly what I have been told. One place had some replacement speakers that cost almost $300 for just 2, but said it will sound better than ever. I have not been able to locate any reasonable priced speakers to replace the originals yet.

If you use the wrong speaker (ohm's) you could fry the output of the amp

You should be able to get a new speaker at a Ford dealership. I replaced mine about 2 months ago. It was approx $35.00 for the new speaker from Ford.

6x8 is indeed the size and yes they are only crossed over for base and they are mono from the mach amp, each speaker is 8 ohms aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms so they will coax some more power out of the mach amps over time it will cause the amps to fail, you can get good 6x8 for about 79 bucks in a pioneer or polk or kenwood and they will work just fine i did this in my car and it worked like a champ, good luck let me knwo if you need more help Dan

I guess my best option is to just go to Ford then and get a couple stock replacements for 70 bucks since aftermarket ones don't have the corrects ohms.
