Just curious as to what people have done as far as modding the factory 460. I have heard that you can't use aftermarket speakers with factory amps? I also want to know if there is a kit that you can plug an aftermarket CD player into the factory amps?

Also plan on getting a JL stealthbox and amp. Don't want to go all out (price wise) on the Mids and highs right now. Just kinda want to get a better CD player and maybe some better highs mids if they will work?

Any Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
Jon

I yanked out all the mach460 amps and stock cd player and put in a Panasonic head unit and re wired all the speakers and threw 2 12's in the trunk....One 12 is coming out this weekend to make space for the bottle for my baby to sip on.... :p

How did you make the Harness? This is kinda what I was leaning towards. I was thinking maybe a line converter. Hook up the rca's on the CD player then the speaker wires onto the amp input wires? Think hat would work?

If you want to use the stock head unit, an inline converter will work fine. Itwould also work with an aftermarkt..but wouldnt sound as good.

Lemme get scott to post up about it.. he is more knowledgeable than i on this matter.

Okay, I'm new to mustangs, how do you tell the difference between Mach 460 and the stock units? I have a 96 GT. It has a stereo and tape player in the top slot and what appears to be a cd changer in the bottom slot. They are both the Ford units. I want to remove them and put in one Alpine unit in the top slot. Would that be hard?
Thanks

If you decide to go the Line Converter route I would check out this artical first. I did it this way as a quick fix to add a couple tens till I had some money coming in and it sounds good enough that I am willing to wait a while before replacing more of the 460. And it is very easy to do. http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/despeeds1.htm
