mach grille delete install issue

I installed my grille delete tonight that i got from 50resto and the nuts for the bottom side of the delete panel do not fit at all. I had to drill to make them bigger and shave part of the delete panel to barely squeeze them on. What kind of tape do some people use to hold this part down, 3M from Home Depot i think i have heard?

also can i put on the radiator cover piece, if i buy it later, without taking the delete panel off?
