+1 Mach 1s have a shaker system. Not that fake ass GT "scoop". Sorry but this is one of the design flaws that Ford put on our cars that still urks me. Lol. Also the GT badges on the sides are a pretty good indiciation as well.
Unless you get yourself in there and make it functional. In a wind tunnel test I found that by lowering the car and opening the scoop you can get ample air flow through it. Then it just takes some metal work, some plastic work, and about a week....and you've got a functional hood scoop.
It isn't easy, and it isn't cheap. And I should say this first: This project is fully aesthetic. It will add NOTHING to your horsepower or torque. But it certainly adds to the car's respectability and arguably provides more air. As well it provides a nice sucking sound that makes the car sound like it has a bigger motor than it really does. I imagine if you had a blower on the car you could make shift a really effective scoop. You will need to have the K&N Air Intake system. Here's what I did:
1) First remove the scoop. This is done by removing the bolts holding it on under the hood; you may have to cut into your fire protective shield or remove it temporarily.
2) Now you have to get a drill bit and drill out the honeycomb holes (leave the octagonal structure)
3) The next part requires metal work, and I suggest that if you've never done it yourself to have a shop do it. You need to remove the metal plate that was put in place to cover up the fake scoop. If you know what the v6 little half-assed scoop looks like, you'll know what I'm talking about.
4) Next you'll need to get some professionally made plastic piping, ideally with the same grade and durability that comes with the K&N piping. To get this, I just called K&N and asked about their product details. Whoever does the piping for you (I had a friend do it for me), just needs to know that if the piping is going to lead to the filter, you don't need a 2nd one. If you lead the pipe directly into the air intake's pipe (like I did), you will have to buy a flat K&N filter for the scoop itself. They make various sizes depending on what you end up doing (This is not a kit, so it will probably be different for each car).
5) Finally you just have to make sure that there is a seal. Using rubber foam works the best because it not only seals the air, but stops the rattles that come from the new piping.
