Okay here is the deal. I have been saving forever. To do something with my car. I think it is time it finally start. I will take me about a year and a half to finish. The day I bought my mustang I already started saving for a new car. I have wanted a lighting since I was about 11. So I estimate to have the money to buy a 99+ used one by the end of next year. My mustang will go to my DD. I am trying to time them to be at teh same time. So I am going to start now building the engine for it. I am starting with the block and I am going to work my way up. I am going with a 351. Where is the best place to get one for cheap? I have also though of going 347 or 331 but I really want a 351. I have been looking for lighting 351 blocks. I need some help. And the car will be SC.

OT- the new job I got, I have a guy teaching me how to bore/mill heads, block and what ever else I want. And it will be all free to me. And the job pays well

Awsome dude. Just a heads up which you're prolly already aware of...It'll cost between 7-9 k for a GOOD 351 swap. If you're not concerned with quality...the Gen1 lightning engines go for about 3k for the longblocks. Then I believe you'd need to convert it to roller. This was my original plan, then I decided on a DSS 393, and now I'm undecided on that or the idea of a S/C 347. Decisions decisions. Anyway It'll be cool to see how yours goes, can't wait to see your car tear it up when you're done. Congrats on the new job too.

sorry the lighting will be my DD. I sorry that wrong. I can get a 351 lighting engine complete with heads and everything for 1300 from autozone. So I figured I could get a just the block for less.

Dustin

Well the shop next door to ours, LKQ...has em for around 3k to the public. I'm not sure if they'd have just the block. May want to give em a try. If the autozone guy's right, 1300's a steal for a longblock, and if it's legit I'd grab it up.

Yeah I need to call autozone again. I also might be buying a 89' Ford Mustang Fox 4 banger for 100. My friend is leaving for two years and need to get rid of it. But can anyone please help me find a 302 or 351 block. I just need to start. I have the money and I am really. Nik how is your 393 coming? If you ever need any help just hit me up.

Dustin

Cliff Note--- I need to find a 302 or 351 for cheap. Where to get one.

What is a good price for one? I don't want to get screwed here. I have looked around a little bit. I don't really know what the price of a good 351 or 302 should go for. Can someone tell me the estimate of what the two blocks should go for. Sorry for the dumb questions. New job is killing my time.

Dustin

Go to yellow pages, search for scrap or junkyards, Get the 20 places or so, and start calling around. You are bound to find one somewhere.

Or you could luck up by word of mouth of someone who has one locally.

7-9k? What combo will it be? Im planning my 351w swap and it will be nothing close to those kind of numbers. For those numbers you BETTER be running a bullet proof DSS block or the like, Victor Jr. Heads or TFS-R heads, Bullet proof tranny, etc. Spending that much better make a REALLY FAST bullet proof setup that runs 9's or maybe 10's easily.

Now he doesn't sound like he is looking for a bullet proof setup just yet. He is looking around for blocks so he doesn't want a DSS block or something. But starting from stock, a 351w swap is not that much different then say a 302 rebuild with h/c/i. The difference being whether or not the 351w is a roller block, the balancer, flywheel/flexplate, distributor, hood(some already have one). Most parts can be found cheap from classifieds. Be patient and talk to alot of people. People know people who know people who sell just what you need :nice:

Just wondering, where did that estimate come from and what does it include?
