a week or so ago i posted a thread on here about making a choice between a 05 or 02 ws6 and i got alot of objective opinions, so did some in depth research on the ls1 since i did not know that much about them. i must say i am quite shocked at the amount of problems these cars have, i mean ****, i'm not sayin a mustang is perfect in every way(had three of them and no problems),but the piston-slap, ticking, weak rear end, head lights going out,sqeaks,rattles,leaky t-tops, **** the list goes on and the ****y service gm seems to give. gm says its acceptable for a ls1 to go through a quart of oil between oil changes(3000), that pretty ****y. none of my stangs ate any oil or had any of the engine problems. ford has had some issues with piston-slap, but not anywhere NEAR what the ls1 seems to have, theirs even a website dedecated to the issue of piston-slap in gm engines(www.pistonslap.com). :jaw:
i love the look of the t/a, but not at the price of it falling apart(maybe THATS why they stopped making them :shrug: ). i know the t/a will probably be slightly faster, but having all the problems is just not anywhere near acceptable for me. i've looked at ls1tech, ls1.com, carsurvey.org and others and every third thread is about,this breaking,that breaking,this knocking sound,that ticking noise,my rear end broke,its eating oil, and i'm not talking about racers, i'm talking about average everyday normal use. on a couple of threads i've read, somebody said there t/a knocked or ticked when it was brand new and this just normal. if i bought a new mustang and it ticked or knocked, i would definatly not be buying one no matter how "normal" they told me it is. now before any f-body guys get on here and let me have it, i just want to say i still think that the t/a is a good looking car,but there are to many problems and it is just fact, because i read it on the f-body forums and people bitching in masses about there own cars. i realize this probably old news to most but i am just glad i found out before buying one. i am getting the 05 ,put my order in today for a mineral gray with IUP, hope to see it someday. :nice:

let the hammering begin

Good choice you'll be happy with an 05. I dont know much about the GM products but I know I have looked at Consumer Reports best buy lists and then their cars to avoid lists. I remember seeing several GM cars on the avoid list and none on the best buy list. I believe GMs qaulity is about near the bottom of the scale, where Fords is closer to the mid top. I just got my new 05 today and I can tell you its exciting as hell to drive and atracts all kind of attension.

I don't think thats a fair comparison of the LS1 and your also comparing many years of an engine into one category. It's like saying that the 4.6 in the earlier years is the same as the 4.6 in the 2004 and all the problems go with all of them. I also think that the crapiness of of the 4th Gen F-bodies and 99-04 Mustang GT were about the same, although the Mustang was a much better car, the F-body was faster. As far as engine reliability, thats more of an objective matter. For the most part all engines have their problems, i have an LS1 and no piston slap. My friend has an 89 Camaro LS1 conversion from a 2002 Transam and no piston slap. My other friend has a 2002 Camaro SS and no piston slap. I know tons of people with LS1's and no problems. I also know tons of Mustangs with no problems. Its really whats happening around you. If all your friends are having problems with their GM cars would you buy GM no. And it works vice versa. I do agree though that GM should acknowledge the Piston Slap problem and just fix it right. As far as websites go, Forums are a collection of the negatives and positives on their particular subject. If you got to ls1tech.com you will find problems on the LS1. I see problems with the 05 Mustang on this site right out of the factory and the problems members are having. The 99 Cobra has websites dedicated to its problems and the lame fixes Ford made for them. All in all GM makes the most cars in the world so they will have the most problems in the world.

Either way i don't see how you were comparing a almost 4 year old car (2002 would be made in 2001) to a brand new Mustang. Whats wrong with you?? The 05 Mustang is much better build quality then the old F-bodies. Its like night and day.

I bought the GTO because its a $40K car in Australia and it is the best built, best fit and finish, highest quality interior, best riding car i have over owned. I just hope the Cobra/BOSS Mustang i buy in the future is made as good as the Aussies make their cars.
