I recently swapped out my MAF to a 73mm on my 93 Cobra. Afterward, the car started running really rich. I then learned that if you swap out the MAF you also have to swap out the ECU to a standard Mustang GT ECU (something to do with voltage.)

The car ran much better for about 2 months and now it is back to running poor. If I run at a steady RPM/MPH in any gear, the car hedges every 10-15 seconds. The powerloss isn't noticeable when accelerating, only when cruising. The car is also back to running really rich.

I'm a bit miffed at this point. Does the scenario of swapping out the MAF and ECU above sound correct? If so, maybe my new MAF has simply gone bad for some reason and I can replace it with the same 73mm. If not, any suggestions on how to do this differently are appreciated. Here is a list of all my mods:

FORD RACING GT 40 X ALUMINUM LONG BLOCK w/ B 303 CAM (12K miles)
Tremec Transmission 3550 w/ SPEC Stage 2 Clutch (6K miles)
BAER ProTrack “Big” Brake System (2K miles)
Steeda Stage 3 Suspension System
Cobra R Wheels
3:73 GEARS
Aluminum Roller Rockers
73MM MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
Forged Rear Axles (Moser)
MSD Ignition and Coil
LONG TUBE HEADERS
H – PIPE
2 CHAMBER FLOWMASTERS
COLD AIR FENDER MOUNTED w/ K&N FILTER
190LBH FUEL PUMP
ADJUSTIBLE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
BBK SUBFRAME CONNECTORS
PLENEM SPACER
Pulleys
Battery Relocator Kit

Thanks.

For what its worth, I swapped out my maf for a pro m 75mm unit with no issues over a year ago. Most likely yours is a C&L and its a tube style calibrated for 19lb injectors.

MAF issues

What kind of MAF is it? I have a 95 Cobra. I have a C&L 73mm MAF and had to experiment with the different plugs that is crimped/splcied into the wires. Before I got the proper one one, the check engine light would illuminate, the car would hesitate and stall. Also, is the MAF calibrated for the proper fuel injectors? I am rebuilding the entire engine and will be replacing the C&L with a ProM 75mm unit. I've spoken with engine builders and mustang owners in my area and they seem to agree that the Pro M is a better quality MAF than the C&L. Peace.

yea C&L sucks... all kinds of drivability problems... go with Pro-M and see if that changes anything. (They actually use different ways of fooling the ECU with the different brands and Pro-M just uses a better method.)
