After reading the post about certain MAF's working with certain ECU's I thought I should check mine out. My project engine was originally from a 87 lincoln lsc with speed density and converted. The MAF used has a square 4 bolt flange and is approx 60mm (not accurately measured) at the narrowest point near the center. The module has the part# F37F 12B579FA and 3J22. Can anyone identify it and tell me if its o.k. to use? Thanks

MAF & sensor interchange
The 94-95 Mustang 5.0 MAF & sensor is also found on:
1995-94 Mustang 3.8L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Crown Victoria 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1995-94 Mustang, Mustang Cobra 5.0L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Town Car 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Grand Marquis 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
The A2A, AA, AB, etc, on the end of the part number are minor changes that do not affect the calibration

I got this from jrichker who is a member on here and have had no problems since.

I found a maf from a crown vic that is a 70MM and idles great.

My info shows that F37F 12B579 FA was used on 1.9L, 2.3L, and 3.0L vehicles between 93-95.

What is the firing order of the motor you have?
It will be cam dependant...


What ecu are you using?

What size injectors?


That maf does sound to be an 'oddball' unit....

It is a HO motor. I double checked the firing order before.
It has the tan/orange? colored injectors I believe to be 19#
The ECU has the code C3W1 on it
The MAF has a square flange on one end attached to the stock air cleaner box, and the other end is round to attach the hose to. The air cleaner box is big and square with another sensor mounted in the side. It also has a flat K&N air filter cartridge inside. I roughly measured it near the center where it gets smaller and it was roughly 60mm, but I didnt have anything to precisely measure it.

Could I change just the MAF and use the original aluminum housing? It looks like the screws that hold it in may be tamper proof.

Not tryin to hyjack but i have similar question. Sallen 0679 can you check your info and see what year maf sensor i have also its F1ZF-12B579-AA and undererneath that number is AFH55-035 and underneath that is 3D08. Thanks alot

The MAF body and sensor are designed to match each other. Therefore you can't swap sensors between different part number MAF bodies and maintain proper calibration. The assembly is designed to match the computer’s internal program, and swapping a different MAF can upset the computer's calibration.

Only with a Tweecer or custom tune. A trip to the junkyard to find a compatible MAF would be cheaper and better.

O.K., Then it looks like I should try to find a MAF that is one off the above list? Are those the ones compatible with my C3W1 ECU?

Yes try to find one of the # you see at the top, make sure the first thing you do is to disconnect the battery before swapping mafs for a good 10 to 15 mins.

After the maf swap iis done you will notice that your car might idle very different and the rpm,s will fluctuate, this is the ecu learning its new configuration, take your car for a ride and it should level out after the 1st 5 to 10 km but i did about 30 km .

After the swap i did not notice that much just cause im sittin pretty much stock at the moment but that will change , this is where i started was with enlarging the maf, intake and throttlebody are on the way , next step is heads.
Just have got to get her breathing proper.

Mystery solved. My project is based on a v6 94 Ranger chassis, so the previous owner must have thought that they where all the same and used it. I am glad I am doing the research and found a great forum.

One more quick question. In the above list, are those the only ones that will work? Or are those the most desirable for size? Would a MAF from an earlier 90-93 mustang work also? Thanks

The above list is for Factory 70mm options.

The stock unit from 90-93 is a 55mm unit, and the sensor unit will have an 'F1ZF' in the part number.

O.K. I have the stock 87 intake manifold and throttle body. Will the later 70mm MAF be an improvement with the stock TB? It seems like you would need a bigger TB to take advantage of the bigger MAF?
