ok, thanks for all of the thoughts, and the comments, I think that I will be going with a magnaflow setup, right now, I bullet mufflers that end before the rear axel, and it is so loud that it rattles the wine glasses in my house when I leave the driveway... and a thirty minute drive is best had with earplugs.... it feels like I am running a long SCCA race just going to visit family....

Ive had both systems.

Yes the Flows do dron.

The Magnaflows are stainless steel and wont rust. IMO Magnaflows sound better then flowmaster.

Personal Experience....

Ok, not totally personal (since I was running Mac's on my Mustang...but they sound exactly alike.) but the drone from chambered mufflers in general at highway speeds is unbearable as far as I'm concerned. Sure they've got a nice growl at idle and WOT, but they get old fast in the 1,800-2,200RPM range (right where you're running at highway speeds).

The Magnaflow on the other hand were quieter....a little too quiet IMO. They made my Cougar sound like a Truck from the inside. Don't sound bad outside the car though. The Magnaflow is certainly the higher quality muffler of the two though.

That being said...I can't say that I'd go with either one of them again. Might look into a set of Bassani's, SLP or Borla's in the future?

Ahh, well I run 3-Magnaflow mufflers and 2-high flow cats on my car....so that's probably where the difference lies.

I still like more of a "throaty" tone to my exhaust though.

Take a look at what I'm driving....non Mustang. One in the middle, where a Mustang would normally have the crossover pipe and two out back.

Set up is similar to this....

First 2/3 (front and middle)

Last 1/3 (rear half)

No need to yell man! None of us are hard of hearing in here and being your first post ever I can't imagine you'd be mad at us are you?

As for your question... the new 44 series is supposed to be a little deeper & louder than the 40's. I've yet to hear a set in person so take it for what it's worth. Whether they are louder overall when compared to straight pipes I wouldn't know. I'm sure however they will have a deeper more powerful sound when compared to a set of straight pipes.

Do everyone a favor though and get some sort of muffler on the car, straight pipes are ghetto on a street driven Mustang IMO.

No not mad, just a bad habit. Anyway thanks for replying. I think the 44s would be sweet, the neighbors hate me enough..lol. I hope i can use the 44s in a sidepipe setup w/o restricting hp.

I can tell you right now that long tube headers + off road pipe + 40 or 44 series flows will make for a very loud exhaust setup. Your neighbors will probably not be pleased! As long as you're not my neighbor go for it!

I would not go for the Flowmaster 40 series or 44 your system will be loud but I do recommend the Tru-X Pipe with MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust/Catalytic Converters
4.6L V-8, Cobra, (Off Road Use), 2.5" Tubing 93343
check it out on their website and I Know they have a sound clip as well.

and MagnaFlow Dual Exhaut System
4.6L V-8, GT/Cobra,
2.5" Tubing, Dual Rear Exit, 3.5" Tip
