Just installed the axle back magnaflows and they sound great! I find them slightly louder at idle and light throttle loads but much deeper. When using some throttle they sound perfect, not to loud and not to quiet. At cruise I have not noticed any resonance inside. One of them installed easily with no alignment problems. The other has not lined up perfectly. I am not sure why so tomorrow it goes on a lift and I will have it set right then welded.

Was the problem on the driver's side muffler? Found this information on another forum:

It seems Ford has done a running change in their exhaust system, so there are early 05s and late 05s.

Magnaflow will be modifying their system to accomodate both the early and late model cars as they will just have to add an additional slot.

The fixtures have been pulled and the modifications are being started today.

If you would like an update please contact Danny Christianson at 1-800-990-0905.

I have ordered the Magnaflow AxleBack kit myself but it hasn't arrived - should be here tomorrow. My vehicle is not scheduled to be built until the week of 1/10/05. I will most likely have the same problem. Others have simply added an additional notch in the inlet pipe for the existing alignment pin to fit properly - see attached image. Is this the same problem you encountered? The CatBack kit doesn't seem to have this problem due to the (2) pipes from the muffler forward being included in the CatBack kit. Problem seems limited to the AxleBack kit.

Actually the problem was on the passenger side. Both sides however did not come close to the alignment pin. It was an easy fix to add a notch to line up with the pin. The passenger side sets up higher and to the right so the tip is not centered in the bumper opening. This will be fixed today at the exhaust shop. The exhaust is a quality product that just needs tweaking to match what Ford is doing

That's pretty sad ... 500 bucks for a couple of mufflers/tips and you still have to tweak them?

Will these pass emission test? And what type of performance do you get in return?

Here's a follow up. Just got back from the shop and the passenger side muffler was an easy fix. After making a new notch for the alignment pin a slight rotation of the exhaust pipe just prior to the muffler lined it all up. The driver side muffler is another problem. To get it close to the proper alignment requires not inserting the pipe fully into the muffler pipe. In fact it just barely makes the connection. I will be contacting the man mentioned earlier in this thread for an explanation and hopefully a proper fix for the problem. As said earlier it is a lot of money not to fit right. More to follow

I put on a set of Magnaflows today - but I think they're actually quieter than stock.

see i actually like the fact that its not much louder than the stock exhaust, it gives it that edge and authority instead of obnoxiousness, but i have never head a magnaflow clip yet that was quiter than the stock. they also look very nice and give you about 12hp if you get the catback

I like the sound of the Magnaflows...definitely sound deeper already. I have read in many different places that they will get even better sounding after the break in period...just like GNN60GT500 said in his post. Hang in there, give 'em a chance and let us know!

It had just been started, and still cold - it hadn't calmed down yet.

I think these are over priced when they don't fit properly, I spent a few hours bending the hangers to get them to fit right, now the hit the frame and vibrate from time to time. NOT HAPPY WITH MAGNAFLOW

I just installed a set of Flowmaster Super 40's on my 05 GT.
All for $200 installed using the factory exhaust tips.

They sound pretty good. However with light throttle at cruise speed there is a drone.

At idle they are a little louder than stock.

At WOT THEY SCREAM!!!!

I do not know about a muffler "break-in" period.... but they have not been on the car for more than 50 miles.... or 1/2 hour.

I cant see paying $500????

Fordman05- Did you get the axle back or the catback-

Ford changed their exhaust system on the car once all ready so there is a early 05 and a late 05.

If you try to put a early Magnaflow kit on a late car, it will not go on right- our updated axle back will fit with no problems-

Mpentico-

You might want to read the Flowmaster post by m1rifle-

He has dyno tested 40 series on a stock 05 Mustang GT and he actually lost hp (about 2rwhp and 3rwtq through the RPM band) after installing the Flowmasters- he has since taken off his 40s.

I am not saying you need to get Magnaflows, but based on how well these factory mufflers flow, you will need to get something with a straight through design (borla, bassani, magnaflow) in order to increase hp and tq.

Here is a nice little picture by the way.............

I'm not happy with the Magnaflows on my '89 5.0 either. I miss my old Flowmaster/off-road H pipe setup. Do they make off-road x-pipes for the '05 yet? If sound is what you are looking, off-road pipes are the way to go.

I took a new video of mine, in the driveway this time. I think the camera was too close to the car, so I took yet another from a further distance.

I think they're getting a bit throatier. Thoughts?

if you look at it closely the JBA car had long tubes, h-pipe and was supercharged.
