I just installed a Magnaflow catback on my 2000 GT convertible (not Magnapack). Everything is nice and tight, and the exhaust sounds great, however I get a headache from the drone on the highway, around 70-75 mph. Does anyone know what can aleviate this or get rid of the drone entirely? I was told Bassani baffles may help, and other people told me because is a convertible this will always be there. Others sugested to get the 18" mufflers from Magnaflow instead of the 14" that were part of the catback kit.
Any help will be appreciated....

strange. Magnaflows are known for having the least amount of drown of aftermarket cat-backs. do you have an aftermarket mid-pipe? if not, get one. it should help.

maybe they need broken in. Mine do not drone. If you want to hear some drone. Go ride in a stang with flowmasters.

What mid pipe shall I get? Wouldn't a mid pipe increase the drone? One of the reasons I got the Magnaflows is because everyone says they do not drone, however I get a headache on the hwy from it in the convertible. I have to be doing over 85-90 not to hear it. Otherwise, the system is pretty quiet. Thanks for the replies.

Any aftermarket exhaust is going to have some sort of drone that accompanys being put on. The big factor here is that you have a convertible, so there is alot of sound dampening that isn't in the car. If there is drone right now, then the addition of a mid-pipe will only make it louder. Face it man, the only way you won't hear drone is if your car is off! As far as a good mid-pipe, I have the ProChamber and I love it.

i would guess the Magnaflow x-pipe would work the best as far as sound since they were designed to compliment each other.

The drone drove me nuts too. I installed some sound dampening inside my car and put in a sound baffle behind the seat. I got the brown bread at b-quiet.com; I think for $99

Anyone added the Bassani baffles to the Magnaflows? Does it help at all? Where can I buy these, and what are the prices? Any adjustments to my tips that can help with the drone? Thanks again for the replies. Again, the only time this dron is anoying is on the hwy, doing 70-75mph; otherwise the system is loud, but LOTS OF FUN.

Did this help? Have you heard of anyone getting the resonators from Bassani installed in the pipes? Did the drone go away, making the car driveable on the hwy? I may have to sell this catback if I don't get it to work for me. Wish Magnaflow will not state this is a great system for convertibles. Thanks.

I have magna-flow high flow x-pipe, and magna-flow cat-back and there is little to no drone at all, it could be your stock H is the problem. The H pipe causes a deeper note. Any way just a thought....

I had an O/R UPR X-pipe and Magnaflow setup until my longtubes. Even with the o/r pipe, there was no drone on the highway. There was a hint of drone with the stock H, though.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that statement tells me that you probably have sensitive ears. Magnaflow mufflers are very quiet (relatively speaking). All vehicles will experience a slight to moderate drone once you find that "sweet spot" at highway speeds. You can either speed up a little or slow down to "get out of it." Sometimes, a gear swap helps accomplish this, because it puts you at a different RPM range at highway speed. Just some food for thought.

Additionally, taking your 'vert into consideration, the road noise/exhaust drone is going to be noticable on the highway. However, the Magnaflow drone is nothing compared to the infamous Flowmaster drone.
So, your drone "problem" isn't all that bad, if you look at the big picture.
Adding a new midpipe would increase the overall volume of your exhaust note as well, so if that's an issue for you, you may want to reconsider that - but it would be a pretty good performance upgrade & it may help to "smooth out" the exhaust note and give your car the sound that you want. G'luck!

I have a vert with bassani catted x pipe and magnaflow cat back. I hear a significant drone as well. I have to say, though, compared to the flowmaster cat back I had on there before, the drone is nothing. I was also under the expectation that the manaflow exhaust would eliminate the drone, based on a lot of comments on these boards. I guess the vert factor makes a big difference. Other than the drone, the magnaflow cat back is pretty quiet, for an aftermarket exhaust. I definitely liked the flowmaster aggressive rumble better, but the drone was unbearable.

When I bought my Cobra convertible it came with a set of 2-stage flows that someone had welded into the original catbacks. I bought the car from a dealer about 200 miles away. On the drive home the drone almost killed me. I had actually wanted to find a set of original Cobra catbacks but they were going to be around $900 new from the dealer. I ended up talking to a mechanic about what I could do to try to get the sound back to stock and eliminate the drone. I installed a set of Dynomax super turbos. They have a SLIGHT drone at about 65 MPH but nothing like the flows. Interestingly, the drone is significantly worse in the driver's seat than on the passenger's side. I would be interested in learning more about what sound deadening material or a sound baffle might do.

Change the midpipe and get some gears, that will get rid of the drone.

I have the magnaflow x and the magnapacks. There is some drone, but nothing irritating. I just turn up the radio. Passengers in the car say it is loud, but that is all of the complaints I have ever gotten from it.

To alleviate the headache, use Tylenol.

Got 'em and love 'em. Buy them direct from Bassani. Price was $25 each but I have heard price went up. I have never touched the baffles since installing them over a year ago. Big difference.
