First Post..I have an 88LX The exhaust from the catback was rusted up pretty bad..I purshased a Magnalow Catback system..The problem im having is getting the hangers on the mufflers and tailpipes to line up. Im like 2-3 inches lower from the actual rubber hangers, nothing lines up well..I have the factory exhaust manifolds, with a bassani Xpipe..Im thinking the xpipe might be hanging a little low throwing everything off. has anyone run into this..Thank you..

never run into that, but try to hang the x pipe before you bolt up the flow tubes , then hang the mufflers, then bolt the flow tubes to the x pipe, you might be able to move things around a little better that way... let me know if this works, and also wondering how you like that x pipe? looking to get rid of my bbk o/r H to get an X...

You may need to loosen all the bolts, including the bolts on the collector. It also may be necessary to cut the mounting rods on the x pipe if there is any there, the ones that goto the trans mount.

I bought a Magnaflow catted x-pipe and Magnaflow cat-back about five years ago - and it didnt fit at all. Ridiculous ground clearance, the downpipes were about 2 inches too narrow to match the headers, and the cat-back was a complete mess. Got to admit the mufflers are nice, but thats the only positive thing I can say about these two products. In the end I had a professional muffler shop redo the x-pipe and removing the cats - and finally I have a decent exhaust system, but never again Magnaflow (maybe except for mufflers, I quite like them).

If the flowtubes were shortened, would that get you more clearance?

On my kit the flow tubes always seemed to be a few inches too short. The muffler hangers seemed to hang the mufflers too far back, which push the tail pipes back further than they should be, which pulls the mufflers further away from the mid pipe. I think different hanger bars and/or different rubber hangers would probably solve all my issues though.

pictures may help me answer the problem...to all people having issues. i dont think changing the black rubber isolators would really do anything, what may need to be done is the hangers on the pipes themself may be wrong (need to be shorter or longer) i have the bbk o/r h pipe, and the flowmaster kit for my 89 GT and everything fits perfect! i do know some people with the exact same setup as mine that have had issues. i guess these companies that make our parts have a very large "tolerance"

I really think my catback was for a newer Mustang. I got it from a friend who had it on an '87 and only put a couple thousand miles on it and he never said anything about fitment issues on his car. Then again it could also have something to do with my X pipe...i have a Dr. Gas and it's an old version that came in 7 pieces and had to be welded together, so there's always a chance that it sits further back than the stock mid pipe would have, and i'm sure that's what Magnaflow was going by when they designed their kit. Any time you mix brands you're gonna have some kind of issue. I've got Mac headers, Dr. Gas X and Magnaflow cat back, which is eventually going to get Latemodel Restoration tail pipes lol.

Car is getting painted rightnow, got frustrated dealing with it and pulled the tailpipes off before painting..I think ill have the exhaust shop weld everything up..The Bassani Xpipe seems to hang lower that normal..what a pain.. Keep you guys informed..Thanks.

I've seen several different posts on other websites where people have issues with the x pipe hanging lower than their stock or aftermarket h pipe. Might just be a design issue.
