That may be true in Georgia or California. I only drive my car in the summer and it's garaged in the winter. Here in Minnesota stainless won't even last forever.

For those of you that say you have the Magnaflows on your late model or fox body,there is a BIG difference in the sound as compared to a older car.My friends have them on their Cobras and they do sound good,on a older car is sounds like cheap pep boys turbo mufflers to me.

I guess I should have clarified on my situation then...

Mine is a 67 with an EFI 5.0L in it. Maybe that is why I didnt think it sounded like glass packs either.

I too paid 438 to my door for mine... that is why I didnt think it could be beat for price (stainless that is) and the install was a snap.

Does stainless steel make much of a difference in sound? No. Will a stainless system outlast a good aluminized one? Not as far as most of you are concerned, for I doubt many of you will drive your car to the point of rusting out a good aluminized system. For a daily driven vehicle or one that is not fully detailed, an aluminized kit may be a better choice when factoring in cost.

BUT... higher-grade ss certainly has its advantages, and can be well worth the extra money spent. IMHO, stainless (304 grade or higher) is well worth the money due to the simple fact that this metal will always be able to be hand-polished to the point of looking brand new; non-stainless kits (or even 409 stainless) will not. I'll be using Borla T304 SS tubing with their XR-1 bullet-style mufflers on my '65. I didn't check, but I think Magnaflow uses 304 stainless as well. But again, sound is subjective, I'm just saying stainless does have its advantages. You're not paying more for nothing.

Taking notes on this thread..
I want to make sure that I am up to speed.

My car which has FPA ceramic coated long tube headers
and the Magnaflow SS X pipe system:

"sounds like the the most generic and outdated exhaust on the planet"
Sounds like "cheap Pep Boys turbo muffler"
Has technology similar to a "1958 Model 800 Ford Tractor"
And.....I am one of the many "suckers born every minute"

Damn you guys are brutal. How do you really feel?
Anyway, I bought the Magnaflow system because it is designed specifically for my application. The fitment is excellent. The materials are high quality.
And it provides a nice finishing touch, appearance wise to the underside of my car.
Now I have not fired her up yet (soon) so I will have to get back to you on sound quality.
Just remember guys there is a reason why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors.

Opining on the sounds of mufflers is just that, opinions, and you know what they say about those. Personally I think all the negative opinions of the Magaflow sound apply to the Flowmaster sound and that Maganaflows are the greatest, but again that is merely an opinion. So if you want your car to sound like a teenager or the Chebbie truck from the bario get a set of Flowmasters, if you want a free flowing high-performance muffler with a mellow idle with no cruise-droning that gets loud at WOT then go with Magnas (not the packs though).

I agree with the rest of your post, but this part isn't true. Stainless will rust through just like anything else. It does take a lot longer, but near the end of its life it might as well be regular steel.

yeah, i was probably a little harsh. The quality does seem to be pretty good. I just don't like the way thier mufflers sound, or they way they're designed. I understand that everybody has different taste, which is a good thing.

I just wanted to inject a little humor into the thread
I am really anxious to hear how the car sounds.
This is my 5th Mustang. I am getting older and I was looking for a more subdued exhaust note. At least while cruising. Hopefully it will be what I want. If not I can always change the mufflers.

Good point, I shouldn't have said "always"; but consider this example. I had a Borla system on my '98 Mustang (with an off-road X-pipe) and drove it for 65K miles through 6 snowy/salty winters, and was able to hand-polish the system to a like-new shine just prior to selling the car. I don't know under what conditions and at what point 304ss will begin corroding, but I don't think it should be a concern, especially since many of these systems carry lifetime warranties against corrosion. The Magnaflow seems like a great kit, and if you like the sound and don't mind paying a bit more, it's a no-brainer.

Well, if I had a choice between flow or magna, i would chose magn anytime. Flowmasters sound like ass IMO.

Personally I dont care for either. I put some magna 16" on my linc, but its a long ass car too, so it actually sounds very nice. spintec and borla gets my vote as the baddest sounding mufflers. We have some Borlas on our blown 250 chevy and OMG its nasty, esp when you get on the gas.

I know that most of us feel like we have figured out what sound we prefer.
But to bitch slap insult another guys pride and joy is a little over the top.
For the most part I can look at/listen to most guys cars (sans rice )
and have at some level an appreciation for the effort put forth.

What other option do we have to get a DOM 2.5" system?

I have yet to ever find an exhaust shop that has a dom bending machine, and to get a 2.5 inch crush bent system is no better than a 2.25 dom.

Have you priced a stainless exhaust lately?
Under 5 bills is a HELL of a good price.
That would be a pretty good price for a mild steel crush bent system from a mufler shop, let alone dom stainless!!!!!!

If you run a turbo, then you want a "strait thru" design, NOT a baffled one like flows. The standing waves generated by the baffels seem to piss off the turbo... opinions vary from cost a few hp to cause dammage to the turbo. Either way not the best choice.

Like any muffler, they can sound good or bad depending on how they are used...

So, Im not going to say you like the sound of my car better then yours...but I think after hearing my car, you might not think they are that bad....

There quite a few of the Shelby guys in So Cal running Magnaflows...

Maybe they too like their 150,000 dollar cars to sound like Pep Boys....

I heard (you my car)them on your 67' and honestly i wasnt impressed,and i also heard them on Bohanons 65',also not impressed,and from i remember,it lost power .I think the fit it great,just dont care for the sound.

Foose,like anybody,will use whats given to him,I remember Foose pushing Flowmaster for years.

I gave my opinion on what sounds good, and spintec and borla win IMO. If you want my order.
