Magnaflow: uneven tail pipes.....

When I installed my magnaflow CB, I could not get the tail pipes even. The problem seems to be on the passenger side of the system. When the tail pipes were even, the short little pipe between the muffler and mid-pipe on the passenger side was touching the bottom of the car. I didn't want that so I turned the pipe so that it was not touching the bottom of the car, but when I did that, it moved the tail pipe up and it was touching the bottom of the back bumper. I finally got it so that neither pipe was touching anything, but the passenger side tail pipe is higher than the driver side. I swear I think magnaflow sent me the wrong piece to put between the muffler and mid-pipe. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to fix it without welding?

No i hear this is a common problem with the Magnaflow pipes. My friend had the same problem, with it touching the back of the bumper on the passenger side. Besides the tailpipes looking like crap (IMO), this un-even install problem was one of the reasons i did not get Magnaflow.

Sorry this wasn't much help, maybe someone else can help you out. Maybe try heating and bending the pipes a tiny bit?

Oh by the way, i am not sure what my friend did to fix the problem, i haven't talked to him in a long time. I'm not even sure if he did fix it, maybe he just left them uneven?

i had problems with some magnaflow tips but after a few times messing with them i got them even.

It takes a little time, but they will even out with adjustment-

its not a problem with Magnaflow- considering Saleen used Magnaflow tailpipes on their cars and still continues to do so and they all fit perfectly, not to mention the 5 Mustang kits Ive installed personally-

Its all based on the adjustment of the first pipe between the muffler and the midpipe- play around with it some more and youll get it-

And I dont know how anyone can say a stainless steel mandrel bent tailpipe looks like crap-

Cool, as long as its something I can fix on my own, I'm happy. I'll just have to get under there and maybe I can get the driver side pipe to rise up even with the other instead of trying to drop the passenger side pipe. Thanks guys.

I don't have Magnaflow's but I had a similar problem when I put on new tips. My problem was the hangers. They are a stretched out s shape and go from the exhaust tip to the bumper. Well the hangers are made to go in one way. I had one hanger in one way and the other hanger was in the opposite way. So I flipped one hanger around and both tips were properly spaced at the bumper.
I hope that made sense.

Wow I never thought about that, I haven't tried swapping the tips. Maybe one hanger is longer than the other. Well, I know what I'll be doing tomorrow after work. Thanks

yea i think this is a problem with all bolt on tips. i had the magnaflow tips now mrt, you have to adjust the crap out of them. when i put on the mrt tips they were worse then the magnaflow tips. i had to really muscle them straight.

when i was done started the car and let it idle. exhaust was leaking in 2 spots further up the system cause i was bending and moving things so much.

Yep. I had the exact same problem. Still do. It's a trade off. When you look close, you can tell the 2 pipes don't sit exactly the same. Since it's not a show car, I'm not going to do anything about it.

my 96 cobra had uneven tips from magnaflow too. i was on the lookout for a new exhaust hangar to drop it down a little bit to even up with the other side.

And to GNN60GT500, I say the Magnaflow SS Mandrel bent tailpipes look like ass is because in comparison to my stainless steal mandrel bent SLP piping and tailpipes....they do look like ass.

Take it to an exhaust shop and have them straighten it up and weld it. It'll cost probably $20 and you'll never worry about it again. Simple.

Update

Well I went out and crawled under the car today and it took me 2 hours to do it, but I finally got those bastards to even out. I noticed that the pipe that was causing the problem was much further away from the part of the bottom of the car that I was having problems with it touching now. Apparently, the x-pipe pulled it further away. A scheme by magnaflow to get you to buy their mid-pipe perhaps? Anyway, it looks great now

I had no problem with mine...fit and finish is great!! I simply attached the peices together loosely, then got the tips adjusted for height and tightened that down, then went back to the front of the CB at the midpipe, tightened that, then the flow tubes to muffler, then muffler to tailpipes, then tightened the tips so they were even protruding from the facia on both sides! Not hard, nor really time consuming.

Wow, I wish mine were as easy as yours. I had to pretty much loosen every bolt on both sides of the exhaust and mess with it all over again before they evened out. When I originally installed it, the flow tube on the passenger side was touching the bottom of the car, when I turned it, it made the tailpipe touch the bottom of the bumber. Couldn't get it to even out right. But oh well, after turning pipes for about 2 hours today, they are even now.

I have a MagnaFlow X and CB and I had a similar issue. The exhaust shop just heated up the pipe near the back than stuck and other long exhaust pipe inside that and then pulled down it to bend it a bit and it's such a minor adjustment that it shouldn't effect anything flow wise.

I just installed my Magnaflow CB last week and had no problems. There was plenty of room for adjustment in the hangers that swivel on top of the tips. After getting the car off the lift there was maybe 1/8 inch difference in over all height. The drivers side hung just a little lower than the other so i just took a floor jack and a piece of wood and jacked up underneath the drivers tip enough start raising the car let it sit for a minute. When I let it back down it was sopt on. Having the car up on a lift so you can walk around and really get ahold of things was definately a huge advantage.

I would check your warranty info cause on a lot of eshaust components when welding isnt required doing so can void the warranty.

Magnaflow tips look the best, to all you haters out there too bad. None of the other tips compare, nothing fills the exhuast cut outs in the rear bumpers like the magnaflows do

Magnaflow is one of the only manufacturer who makes a cat back that has FULLY ADJUSTABLE tips. So no matter what exhuast set up you go with you can get it to look good
