To answer your question, honestly NEITHER will be loud if you still have your stock H pipe. All else the same, the flows will be louder than magnaflows UNLESS you have magnapacks.

Keep the magnaflows and get an o/r x pipe and see how you feel...

The gt I had,had 40's on it and it was loud just like above said,but at highway speeds they had a drone also,no won the new mach I put flow 44's and they are much louder and deeper than the 40's...I like them alot,but thay dont drone at highway speeds as bad as 40's...still drone just not has bad.The 40's had a horrible drone at 75...had to really crank the radio.Sorry but I have never had the magna's.

How long have you had the Magnaflows?
They get louder after a couple of weeks of use FWIW.

I have them in my 03 Vert and yes they DO DRONE, espeically at 1900-2100RPM under load (going up a hill etc) and with an automatic is gets very annoying after a while.

I see on the boards all the time that people claim these don't drone and I don't get it, because they do.
Of course the drone is NOTHING like Flowmasters which will literally make your ears bleed at certain RPMs.
The Magnaflow drone is just an irritating peak in the sound that gets annoying.
Some people like it and others don't.
I feel it ruins the exhaust sound.

An X pipe will make the pitch higher at least that's what it did on my friend's 03 with the same Maganflow catback I have.

The Flows are deeper but they will drone even worse than the Magnaflow which is probably the tamest after market system.

If you want good sound with no drone it's either stock, Steeda (really Borla with some differences or so I have been told) or the new Corsa DB mufflers which use a patented design and are guaranteed not to drone.

if you want your car to sound like a beefed up V6..buy magnaflows.
If you want your car to sound like a real muscle car, buy anything else...except flowmasters, my friends 5.0 drives me nuts, that much drone shouldn't be legal! damn drone from flows can turn honest self respecting people into mass murderers, i swear

Magnapacks sound even worse than magnaflows IMHO. I had them, nasty trash, sounded like a truck with no character. All my friends liked it but they had 4 banger hondas, so anything sounded good to them. SLP LMII was a better choice, but i went with a MAC exhaust the second time around.

You got it backwards. SLP sounds like a hillbilly truck. Never had a negative comment with my Bassani X and 'Packs. All my friends own V-8's. Get better friends.

I agree- SLP aint all that either, just better than packs, especially LM2. Chambered mufflers sound the best on mustangs. I've never heard magnapacks with the Bassani X in real life- but if it sounds like i imagine, it being louder and raspier doesn't help its cause any.

Magnapacks with a catted H. I had mac flowpaths for a year before I had the packs welded in, I love how the packs sound. All my buddies love how my car sound and most of them are mucle car guys. For chambered I would say the flowpaths are the best. I think the best sound on a stock mid pipe is SLP loud mouth ones hands down.

It all boils down to personal preference. I would get on you tube and look up different exhaust combo's.

Personally I like the Magnaflow sound and I disagree that they sound like a V6 on steroids or a truck.
I get lot's of compliments on how my car sounds.
Lot's of people like loud obnoxious exhaust systems, I am not one of them.
I got that out of my system with a 72 Duster, 77 Transam and 77 Nova back when we were running glasspacks.


That being said, the Magnaflow drone is NOTHING like the Flowmaster drone. It's very difficult to describe, but the Mangnaflow drone is more of a peak in the sound at 2000 RPM (137hz or so, I measured it) and it ruins the sound of the exhaust in that range because it masks the deepness of the sound.

It's like you are cruising around and things sound nice and then all of a sudden you hit that range, where like the other guy said, the automatic likes to live (65MPH) and this resonant sound comes out of nowhere ruining the true sound of the exhaust.
It's like hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

The Flowmaster drone is a pulsing, vibrating, low frequency sound that actually makes my ears pop. It's kind of like pressure on the ear.
The peak is in the same range as the Magnaflow as dictated by the physics of sound, heat, movement of gas etc, the the experience felt by the driver is different.
It's much, much worse than the Magnaflow drone IMHO.

Someone used to flows who rides in a car with Magnaflows is going to say: Drone? What drone?

I can also hold a conversation without screaming.

An after market H pipe will only make it louder, not really deeper with the exception of the Prochamber which will deepen the sound, but the drone as well.
The deepness is a function mostly of the muffler and TYPE of midpipe.
An X pipe will raise the pitch, which some people like

I was thinking of putting Borla or Bassani mufflers on the system and seeing how that effects the drone.
Some people claim putting the 18 inch Maganflow mufflers fixes it, but I suspect that will just quiet the entire system down.

Another option is the Steeda/Borla catback system which has a deep sound to it but supposedly doesn't drone.
I've heard that one before so I am skeptical.

Bottom line is the reason there are so many different exhausts for these cars is that everyone has their own opinion and that's the way it should be.
Buy the one that *you* like.
