i just got mine today, i know the tips are but the rest doesnt seem like it is.
people say that if you stick a magnet to stainless it shouldn't stick, well it does.
one of the reason i bought it was so it wouldnt rust. sure if your in florida or something it probably wouldnt. but i dont want the thing rotting out.
they shouldnt advertise as stainless when it barely is or not at all.

anyone have any problems with these?

Someone correct me if im wrong, but the Magnaflows use a different type of stainless steel, one that will attract magnets.

Its still stainless steel none the less, dont worry about it.

Can you email me a picture

bbass@magnaflow.com

I would like to see- I think what you are seeing is not rust, but discoloration from the lazer welding-

We just went to full robotics on our mufflers- and they have been fine tuning it-

aye, i have seen that before on some other items, not from magnaflow, but others in general. its kinda like taking a torch to a titanium muffler on a sport bike. the heat from the torch will discolor the titanium giving it a purple look. same thing with any metal. heat can and will discolor, and if they are new, and not used, then i'd put my money there.

GNN - good to see you around, remember first seeing you on CRSX, always nice to have someone like you around.

Not all stainless is created equal. The factory pipes are stainless and look at them...flecked with rust spots. That's normal for certain types. T-304 I think is the best, most expensive rust-free type and T-409 is cheaper but allows a small level of harmless but ugly surface rust to form.

I'd suspect that the type of stainless used in the Magnaflow system is comparable to the factory system...

I have the Magnapacks and after 3 winters the only rust I have is where the driverside tailpipe/tip is bent. Thats 3 North Eastern winters with oodles of salt and crud. Now if I could just get a replacement tip but I have the old style packs

The stock cat back rusted through after 1 winter, dealership refused to replace it because they wanted to hide behind "cosmetic rust". Friggen thing had holes through it from the rust. Bought the Packs and havent looked back.

Surprising. My stock exhaust was fine after 3 MA winters, had Packs for 1 MA winter and 1 MD winter.

I just think the Catback was the problem not the entire exhaust. The headers and midpipe are clear of rust still. Would of prefered a no charge factory replacement for the cat back but 250 for the Magnapacks was a great price (bought em used).

Should of done something about the tip along time ago but now that I have time to worry about things like that I dont have the funds to do anything.
