I have a 96 s281 with the Magnesium wheels on it. I was going to change them out, but I kind of like them. There aren't a lot of cars around with them. I looked at chroming them, but it can't be done (something about the heat). Therefore I am going to have them stripped and refurbished. However, I'd like to put the 10" ones on the back. Unfortunately, I can't find a set. I don't really care what they look like because I'll have them re-done, as long as they aren't gouged up. Anyone know where I may find a set? I've talked to many people that say I'm wasting my money and should go with a set of aftermarkets or newer chrome Saleen wheels. Opinions??

Sal,
Very interesting post. I'll tell you what. You will have an easier time finding a unicorn then a decent set of the 10" rear Saleen/Speedline magnesium wheels for you car. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Disp...heelModel=1908&wheelFinish=Light+Grey+Painted

There was a guy at tirerack a few years back that could order what you want from Speedline. I can't remember his name. http://www.speedlinecorse.co.uk/
You may be able to get a response from someone in England at speedline direct who may be able to help you. The actual wheel is still being manufactured, but the Saleen production was "something special". That is what you will be told. You may be able to have Speedline produce a couple of 10" rears with the correct offset. Be ready to pull a second mortgage on your house because that is what it will take for them to make a couple of wheels for you. You need to call Bob Root at Saleen or ask for someone in production. Mike may have the offset memorized. I can't remember.
I mothballed my set of magnesium 9's and 10's from my S351. I was able to get one of the last sets of 94-98 regular Saleen/Speedline wheels last year. That is what I am rolling now. I had someone offer me $7,000 for my set of magnesuims that I only throw on my car for shows. They were only available on our year cars as the wheel upgrade on the S351, S281, many Budget rental cars like yours, and the Saleen/Explorer. If you call Bob at Saleen he may have a couple of new sets or the basic 94-98 wheels left.
If I can dig up the guy's name at Speedline in Europe I'll re-post. I know you just spent some hard earned cash re-spraying your car. Your man is correct, you cannot safely chrome our magnesium wheels. There are a few guys around that can powdercoat them, but they won't gurantee anything. There is a guy here in Los Angeles that can strip and re-spray your wheels with the correct color silver and clear them. (magnesuim) I own his work and they look factory perfect. Let me know if you want his number. He charges $125 a wheel and it takes a month.
If I were you I would re-spray you magnesuims and put them on the shelf and go with some new wheels to roll around on. At some point these wheels will be gone forever.
Have you tried to purchase a mint factory Shelby Mustang steering wheel lately??? Limited production parts for limited production cars. Those wheels will be worth more every year, even if you have the 8.5's (9's) all the way around.

Thanks Marcus. That was a lot of good information. I'm not sure it would be worth it to get the information on the European connection. I'm not going to take out that second mortgage you were talking about to buy a set of 1" wider rear wheels. I was hoping that someone might know where a set where. Mine don't have any gouges in them, they are just scratched up a bit where they were curbed (it was a rental you know...) I would take the number of your CA connection for refurbishing though. I have a guy here in Phoenix, but I'm not sure how good he is...

Sal,
I owe my guy in England a call anyway so I'll ask him how much for you. Just for kicks. Right. The guy here in Los Angeles. His name is Charlie and he runs the show at Performance Plus. 310-327-8320. He took a set of Saleen 18" 9's and 10's for me had all 4 wheels stripped and resprayed for me for $500. They look and match factory perfect. Two of the wheels were chrome! Very happy. Good luck. Don't ever sell those wheels. You will be sorry later.

There is a speedline dealer here in Georgia that had a set. If I can find the website I will forward it. He said he could order them but, I believe the price was over $500 per rim. He ended up selling a NOS set on ebay for $1500 a few months ago.

Hmm... i didnt know our rims were so special  As a matter of fact i was about to get new Wheel Replica Saleen Chrome rims for two reasons 1) the chrome 2) 10" wide rim in the back. So my question is, what should i do with my current rims on my car, they are the regular silver and 8.5" wide rims all the way around. If i remember correctly all 4 rims have some amount of curb rash, some more then others and all the rims are starting to pit from brake dust.

Saleen201,

I looked at your pictures. Nice car. However, unless you had the Speedline Magnesiums off the car for the pictures, you don't have them. The ones on your car in the picture aren't the Speedlines. I think they are the regular ones that came on the car. Check the link in Marcus' post, there is a picture of them. I believe the Speedline wheels were an upgrade option except for the S351 and Budget Cars. Mine is a Budget and Marcus has the S351. His came with the 10" rear wheels, mine had the 8.5 all the way around (unfortunately :notnice: ), which is why I'm looking for a 10" wide set for the rear...

Ohh ok, i know what rims you are talking about now (they are the 99+ looking rims that came stock on the S351s like you said) i follow now :nice: Ok, so it looks like i wont loose any sleep if i sell them and upgrade, thanks for the clarification.
