Magnetic oil filter?

uh.. saw this on another forum and was looking for input here..

I guess the idea is legit, but do you think it really works? Lets take in account for the people who do not "analyze" their oil on every change and instead look at the life of a newer engine that uses this magnet.

I've heard of magnetic oil plugs and such but not this. I guess its a good idea.. thoughts? opinions?

sounds good, but i never heard or seen those b4 so i really don't know anything about them word of mouth style... but id try it i guess.

you can do the same thing by sticking a good powered magnet to the filter/pan.

like off the back of the stock tweeters you all have in a box, in the garage.

Idea's been around for a while. Damn deal as a plug i supposed, except this magnet will trap metal flowing around your engine oil vs the metal settling to the bottom of your pan.

I would run both

Does anyone here actually use any magnet stuff on their cars and find metal or any particles on them?

I dont think id even touch those for 1 reason being if that magnet has been on there for sometime and 1 day it decides its going to fall off' then over months you get abunch of metal hanging on to that 1 point and all lets loose at once you might be in for a big surprise. might have to rig it up really good just to be sure.

That's what hose clamps are for


I'll be using one when i rebuild my engine this spring. If nothing else it's piece of mind. All engines are going to have some metal in the oil and this can't hurt. That's less abrasion in the cylinder walls if nothing else.

Well you have to remember, that alot of the big truck guys use these, the guys who take their cars off road and mudding and hills and they never had a problem with these falling off.

The pull of the magnets is VERY strong.

And anyway, its reusable on every new filter, if you change your oil regularly you shouldn't have a problem, but most oil filters only catch particles up to 25 micron in size, These magnetic filters catch up to 2 micron.


What would be really interesting is one for the transmission because we all know there is more metal floating in there than in the oil.
