Ford should have used 14" wheels also. They fit the wheel well better, and provide for better handling, load capacity, etc. That would have really created more separation between the MII and Pinto.

I've seen one repair manual (Clymer's?) that showed 4-lug 14" wheels as standard on the MII. So maybe they were considered early in the design.

Except that Chevy never used the Magnums . They were Ford and Mopar only.

GM did have several versions of Rallye wheel though, which looked like Magnums.

Exactly. The Magnums just never "did it" for me. I could never dis-associate them from the 70's Camaro look. I personally would prefer stock steel 13's with hubcaps to Magnums, but that's just my own opinion

And I totally agree that Ford should have used 14's on the II. Even bare stock steel wheels/tires fit the fenders better.

Magnums resemble Buick wheels moreso than the Chevy wheels, IMO. The Buick wheel was chrome/black like the magnum, whereas the 69-70 Chevelle SS wheel was painted with ring and center (as well as 69 Camaro SS, 69 Nova SS, 70 Cutlass, etc etc etc) much like the later ford/mopar rally wheels.

Looky what turned up...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE...QQihZ012QQcategoryZ140747QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now, whether they're really 73 stang wheels or mav/torino wheels is anybody's guess.
