maier racing 3" quarter

im going to purchase maier racing 3" flared quarter panels, does anyone have any experience installing fiberglass panels? i can do the fenders but the quarters seem a lil diffcult. what do i cut ? and were do i glue? i was going cut out the section of 1/4 then leave tabs and pop rivet the glas 1/4 on, then cover the rivets with glass and make it smooth but people said i cant do tha but havent told me the right way and ideas on installin glass 1/4s ??

i agree.. only someone well trained in the art of body work like me or my pa are can do it correctly and keep it from being wavy.. figure you have to make the quarter panel out of bondo and fiberglass.. so either have lots to spare and lots of time.. or get it done right.. because if you do it inexperienced.. then it will look like crap.. stick to a 1/4 inch of bondo at the most.. no more.. and you'll have to spread it evenly across the panel

i might take it to the body shop, but im pretty good at body work not great or a pro. i know how to glass it in and i dont use too much bondo anyways just skim coating but how would i get the 1/4 to actualy stay? is ther a glue and what do i cut out?

The fenders can be done without bondo or fiberglass. They have a surface lip and you bond them on and then use body seal in a tube(Urethane) to fill in the surface between the fiberglass fender and the steel fender. This is done this way because the purpose of these fenders are for autocross/roadracing. You will cut out the fender opening to have the outer and inner fender to be the same size. I have done 3 of the old MPH Wide Body kits and that was a job that never pays enough.

hmm this is gettin a lil hard to do then i thought might just have to pay the guy i kno to do it on the side instead of at the shop cuz its gonna be a lot. any ideas on how much im lookin at to install??

You misunderstood what I said then. They glue on and takes about 20 minutes a side. You don't need to clearance the outer quarter but then what would be the purpose of the wider larger wheel opening. I will find pictures if I can find some that would help because my son that was 13 at the time bonded(glued) these same type of units on his 300ZX in less than 3 hours both sides combined. I have done many of these type of fenders for extended rear quarters and you just grind to metal the bonding area and glue the quarter on. After the unit dries not even Hulk Hogan can remove the extension. Then you prime the inside of the extension and spray so you don't have rust. I always spray the extension off the car. You don't even need to use the seam urethane but a lot of cars I am painting and I use it to give a cleaner line and since the sealer can be painted(same stuff used to seal around trunks and panels(OEM)) it looks great. I have not been to Maiers web site in years but have installed the front fenders and they fit like a factory part. They don't have instructions on the site? Usually parts like this that get replaced monthly when road racing are just a glue and go part for easy replacement.

No i called the guys at maier and they gave me a a slight description and were talkin about glueing it on and cuttin some stuff. So if i understand you correctly i just glue the new 1/4 panel on top of my existing and then cut the steel (bondo in my case) out, until it meets flush with the new 1/4? then i can glass the outside and smooth it out and sand and prime the inside parts so it dosnt rot. Correct?

You really don't need to glass it in, it runs across the edges and looks great and matches all the Mustang lines. Do you have pictures of completed cars with no fiberglass work- I do. Send me your direct email and I will send you some pictures.

yea thas what i dont get is if i place the 1/4 over my existing 1 the how do i get the thickness of the 1/4 down to make it level and smooth? do i feather the 1/4 down?
