It sucks waiting for parts to come in the mail. I wish there were more shops around and that the few that are had more competitive pricing.

When I was young...ehhhem. We had to go to the speed shop. It was actually more of a PITA than mail order, provided you research before you order.

It was worse to walk in and walk out with a part?

You had to stop what you were doing and drive to get it..usually with a broken car and hope they had it in stock. I much rather point, click, and have it all thought out and here before I begin. Most places have it to me in 2 days or less. Plus the prices are better. Summit killed the speed shop.

Ha yeah it did. It sucks when something breaks and you need it. I thought it was wild when I ordered wheels and tires. Discount tire. you're next.

The big chain parts stores are really a blessing now. There are several Auto Zones, and Advance Auto's all around me now. They carry a lot of stuff. I mean yes they don't have a nitrous set up in most of them but you can usually find a way to fix what is broke same day from one of them. I search online to see which one has it in stock and drive there. Some of the stuff is junk but they have good quality stuff too.

Same thing for me. It's the new American way I guess. One more thing that sucks about mail order is you can't get your hands on it first. It's always a little gamble and you hope the other idiots in the forums are right.

You guys are extremely lucky. Our speed shops here dont carry half the stuff we need. If we ever have to order from the mainland, shipping is hell. just to ship a set of wheels and tires here from late model resto is almost as much as the wheels itself! so we have to plan out what we need very carefully and budget extra for shipping.

I get a pretty stout discount at advanced by having a 10+ year old commercial account but I've been tearing up eBay on my build.
The days of it being little old ladies selling beanie babies are over, there are a ton of "speed shops" on there now, selling OEM and name brand stuff dirt cheap. Free shipping, no bidding. I've been really surprised.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

I actually prefer mail order.

Having access to two local speed shops back in the 90's always netted the same outcome.
They never had what I wanted, and when they did it was way more than Summit/Jegs.
It's actually fun for me to come home and find yet another box sitting there waiting on me, instead of me waiting on it.

There was one little speed shop in my home town. He was mostly a "I can order for ya, be here next week" kinda guy. Well, I grew up in Ohio, so I could order it too (Summit/Jegs), and have it overnight with standard shipping, and for about half the price.

Yep same here. When Summit opened that ATL warehouse it meant the same thing for me. Standard ground got it here the next day.

It amazes me. I order from Summit on Sunday evening and Monday afternoon the brown truck shows up. He hated me the other week when he had two cast iron cylinder heads.

I'm waiting on a Vortech kit that is being "drop shipped" from Vortech. Monday will be 2 weeks since I paid for it. I thought I was told 7-10 days until I received it so i requested a tracking number Friday becaus I was curious as to where it was. Well it hasn't been shipped yet. I was explained that its 10-12 business days before its shipped because every kit is "custom" put together and head units are inspected for tolerance. The tolerance part I kinda get but the custom kit part is hard to buy since it's the run of the mill kit for a stock mustang. But anyway it'll be shipped on the 9th allegedly. Sucks I've been watching for the UPS like a kid on Xmas eve n it hasn't even left yet
