My car with a stock block is pushing 465 rwhp 455 rwtq. I pegged the lightning MAF and was wanting to go to the SCT BIG Mouth Meter to free up the hp I lost across the RPM Band BUT, I have been real worried about this much HP on a stock block (mid 500 at the motor) Should I invest in a main girdle? Or is it still a ticking time bomb? I'm only 19 (saved up money from youth for car and mods) Can't reall afford to waste this motor. Thanks!

Get the Girdle!! those main caps are walking all over... when you install the girdle... remove one of the caps and you will see where it looks like someone hammered the cap and the block!! Although the 5.0 Blocks are weak.. the mains will take a lot of beating befor they let go...

at your power level, you are right to worry about the bottom end. you are close to the limit of the stock bottom end.

anything to strengthen it would be good.

Why use a girdle? Do you want to save the pieces when the short block explodes - that's all that the main girdle is going to do.

I have a DSS shortblock and it came with the girdle.

Now I dont see why it would HURT anything at the very least.

I do think it is doing something...what/how much is prob. not that much but prob. something.

Do I think this will help a engine that is making 600+hp...NO. But if your around 450-500 (the limit of the block stock) then I could see it HELPING with the engine to survive. Any motor that has that kind of power is going to have breakage either in the motor (like the valvetrain, ect) or even the rest of the drive train like the trans. or rear.

The killer seems to be high RPM, and gobs of power being used alot.

In the end if you want to play your gonna have to pay and a aftermarket block is money well spent in that area if you plan on going past the 550hp mark and wanting the motor to last a good bit of time.
