major problems with the gt...

ok heres the deal. about 2 months or so ago i was driving home one day and when ever i got to around 3.5k rpms the car would start to buck really badly. i was like WTF? well i drove it a little bit after that and it didnt do anything. again...WTF?

fastforward to this past month and today. i drove the car and at any rpm the car bucks. it wants to get up and go but it seems like somethign is choking it really badly. i drove it today to get it washed. was fine at first but started to buck horrible at any rpm at any speed. barely made it to the car wash (not even a mile from my house). got it washed. drove it across the street to put some gas in it thinking it might be because i had none in there. still does it. today it even died on my while i was getting it home. it also now idles horrible. it dies when idleing for a min or 2.

someone mentioned disconnecting the egr. i disconnected it but it didnt do anything. i have no idea what it could be. does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like it might be an ignition problem maybe??

Any codes?

When it dies, does it start right back up? If not, that's a great time to diagnose things. Can you check fuel pressure when it stalls out?

guy i used to work with at ford said it was my iac. when it dies it starts right back up when i try it. he asked if the rpms fluctuated when it was idling and i told him yes. he gave me a def. answer that it was my iac. i trust him. well see in about 3 days. ill keep you posted.

You may also want to check and make sure that your intake tubing after the MAF is all tight down. And another thing if it does it only after a certain RPM all the time it could possible be the coil too. good luck

do the basics like clean maf/iac (or if you're gonna replace it, that'll be even better), check for codes.

my car was having a bucking problem and it turned out i had several exhaust leaks, including two right before the o2 sensors (x pipe was only hand tight--forgot to tighten it) and both 02's were bad.

Someone suggested that cutting out at 3.5K RPM or bucking is caused by the IAC? Hmmm, I'm not sure I'd agree with that.

If your IAC had taken a dump, your car would not even start in the morning or when the motor was cold. Furthermore, at anything more than closed throttle, the IAC does not do much. And you would spit a code for not being able to control the upper or lower RPM limit.

Check your plugs/wires/cap/rotor, do a cylinder balance test, check for vacuum leaks, check fuel pressure, clean MAF/IAT sensors, check oil for coolant and vice versa.

Then remove the plugs and see if any cylinders are running lean/rich.

he asked if the when i didnt have the throttle down and at low speed with the clutch in it would die. i told him yes. asked if it would rev up and down at idle? i told him yes. and asked if it died just sitting also? told him yes. he gave me a deffinate answer of iac. it does it at ANY rpm and ANY speed. it buck just when its in neutral with the ebrake on and i rev it up.

cap/rotor and plugs have all been replaced within the last 5k miles.

i've had a somewhat similar problem when my intake tubing fell off. Tons of un-metered air was going in then engine and causing it to stall. just check it for piece of mind at least before going into to much more.

I'm guessing your MAF is the problem if all of the intake tubing is still connected. If you're still stock, turn the car off, unplug the MAF, and start it up again. If the problem goes away, you have a MAF issue. Pretty simple test to do, but I had the same issue with my 95, and these symptoms come up every now and then that we never really find out what the problem was.
