Making my first runs with DRs tonight, any advice?

What kind of DR's did you get?

18 psi with DR's
and of course.. try different rpm's when launching. good luck

I'm heading to IRP tonight after work for Test & Tune. Typically its a little slick on Tuesdays because of the retarded "ricers". I'm not generalizing about all import owners, but the "hey I'm going to drive my 18-second Civic DX through the water box and carry water to the starting line"-type drivers.

My plan was:

- Nice 8-10sec burnout
- Launch 3500RPM
- Slip the clutch off the line
- Hold on for dear life

BTW, the car has 3.73s and the only suspension work is H&R springs and Mach I shocks which probably aren't helping much. I also still have the stock axles which I would like to nurse along until this winter until I can get the cash to replace them, hence slipping the clutch. So no 5k drops off the line quite yet.

Any suggestions on tire pressure or anything else are welcome!

I dropped mine down to 17psi....the rest of your plan looks good...especially the part about no 5K drops!

launch higher on drag radials or you will bog slipping the clutch....

They are BFGs. 275/50R15s on some ugly V6 trispoke wheels.

I would do a longer burnout, in MM&FF about 2 years ago they did a good write up on burnout techniques. They said to really do a good burnout with DR because the compound just gets stickier and stickier, I would do a good 25 second burnout

Do a burn out until you see a little smoke. That is when they are ready to go. I slip the clutch at 5000 rpm.

that is way too long of a burnout. when you do a burnout like that the rubber compund goes from getting sticky to gooey. when it gets gooey it actually hooks mush worse. a good 8 - 10 second burnout does just fine with drag radials

Well, I guess I'm just going to have to wait in suspense at what my times could be. For some reason just as I was leaving work, I got on irponline.com and looked at the schedule and they aren't running this Tuesday

A 25 second burnout on DR's will start to literally shred rubber off the tire.
