I went from 4 wheel drums to stock front manual disc brakes and it was a big difference. The pedal isn't much harder than driving a power brake car with a decent cam in it.

snakepilot,
I must disagree with your viewpoint. Not sure if you have ever driven a car with manual upsized disks but I know what mines going to do every time I step on the pedal. I went manual because I knew the cam I would be running would not produce the vacuum power brakes needed. Sure, if I was sticking with stock wheels and stock or rv cam I would use stock power brakes.

I have to say there is nothing wrong with manual brakes when set up properly. My girl has never once complained about pedal effort or stopping power.
The heavy pedal effort seems to be coming from the smaller or stock dia disk crowd.

After 4 years of heavy street use I could chip your teeth on my dashboard when I stomp on the binders, yet they are ez to modulate by feel at any speed. I still feel comfortable switching from my driver to the stang.

Anyone ever spend time in an electric vacuum boosted car with a big cam? They are louder than an electric fuel pump. I am talking annoying! A canister works as long as you only need one or 2 pumps then lookout Might as well be a brick under the pedal once the canister is spent. Been there and not going back.
