I recently found an 87 turbo coupe for a turbo swap and was wondering what is the difference between a stock T5 in a 92 2.3 mustang versus the T5 in the 87 turbo coupe? In other words, do I need the tranny from the TC or will my current T5 work well with the turbo motor?

Wish I could get a peddal assembly so I can get my BW t5 in my coupe. GRRR!

They're all over ebay, final prices start around 60 bucks before shipping. I got one out of an old 4-eyed 4-banger at one of the local junkyards for 40 bucks. Got my Ranger manifold for 40 bucks there too. I'm still trying to track down a decent driveshaft. I've got everything else.

You shouldn't have to tear up the dash. I left the donor car in the junkyard fairly unscathed. The only thing I bent was the one dash support bar that goes to the left front column support stud, and it could have easily been bent back. I didn't even pull the column out of the donor car. I pulled it out of mine just to make life easier on me.

Well the said doner of the pedals would be me tearing up my gt350 more than I would want to.

Granted the hatch pannels, seats, center councel are removed(can be put back in with some new screws), but taking out the pedals nah I want them to stay there cause I know I wouldent want to put someon else in the same situation of putting pedals in that when it gets sold.

EDIT: if it gets sold.

Does anybody know how many quarts of transmission fluid go into a 2.3L T5 tranny?

I was told 2.8 quarts over on turboford, and I put 3 quarts into my T5.

BTW- get Pennzoil Synchromesh if you can, it's better than ATF.

Biggest differences I know off the top of my head is that the Turbo Coupe T5 has a lower first gear, and also TC's had electronic speedometers so it doesn't have the thing for the cable on the tranny.

Actually, T5's with tag number 1352-114 were the only one's with the 4.03 first gear in a Ford application. They were used in the 85/86 TC's. S-10's and other GM applications used the same gearset as well. These trannys do use a mechanical speedo drive. (There's one sitting in my garage right now waiting to go in my '91 LX. :) ) It comes from the factory with a 6 tooth drive gear which may cause some grief finding the right driven gear. The other 4 cyl T5's used a 7 tooth drive gear. IIRC The 87-up TC's used a 3.97 first gear and SVO's had a 3.50.
