I have a 99 Mustang with the Mach system and I'm trying to figure out the best way to install. Hopefully you can help me with a couple questions:
1. I have a Kenwood head unit. I've seen two different types of wiring harnesses: one is cheap ($15) and one is quite a bit pricier ($50). The latter one says that it will keep the stock amp working...is it worth it? Where should I buy?
2. What have you guys done with the lower CD player when adding an aftermarket HU? I'm sure you could put an equalizer or changer in, but is there something more simple that can be put down there? Maybe a sunglass holder? If any ideas, where to look/buy?
3. I have two JL 10s that I used in a different car. The box they were used in is a simple, cheap, sealed box. It's too tall and a little bit too wide. I don't have the ability to build a box and am looking for an affordable solution (custom probably too $$$). Any ideas of places to look?
4. I've seen some boxes that I could use if I faced the subs straight up at the deck. Any problems doing it this way?
5. Finally, what is the best repair manual out there for Mustangs? I'd like to have something to reference when tearing my car apart.

Thanks in advance.

Well....I've got some suggestions for you. I have a 2003 GT Vert, so the box in my trunk wasn't as big as most sub boxes in cars today, but it works GREAT!!! I custom-made it myself. I had 2 Audiobahn ALUM10Q's in it, gold couplings on the left and right sides of the box. It is even carpeted black to match the trunk interior I have. I am going to be making a fiberglass enclosure in the trunk or in the rear seat spots, so I no longer need it, so if you could use it, I'd make a deal for you, but you would need to pay for shipping, and I won't lie, it's rather heavy. Made of 3/4" MDF as well as particle board for reinforcement. It fits like a charm too. Right under the plastic pieces in the trunk, and you could take it in and out of the trunk without taking any plastic pieces out if you needed to get to your spare tire well. You'll have to PM me if you wanna work something out,k? My name is Chris. I don't have a digi cam right now, but if I come across one, I'll snap a pic of it in my trunk so you can get an idea.

As for the HU.......I say ditch the whole "stock" amp thing. You won't get much of a good response from it, especially if you want to run JL's in the back. Have something kick it up a notch!!! I have an aftermarket HU in mine, and the shop put in a plastic piece that connects to the HU and has a little compartment for holding whatever you please. I will eventually put in the Kenwood or Alpine equalizer when I re-do my sub box, so if you find anything 1/2 DIN, I'm sure you could install it in there. And I don't know anything about wiring harnesses, as I spliced and soldered, so not sure on that one.

From what I've read and investigated, pointing the subs in diff directions doesn't make any difference. Don't take my word for it, however, because I have a 'vert, so my bass travels differently. You could point my box forward, backwards, or lay it facing up (it can't lay face down, however).

As far as carpet, when I ripped mine out to Dynamat my entire car, I didn't need ANY instructions because there weren't any screws or clasps holding it on. I took out the seats and the console, and it just comes right out no problem. Putting it back in is simple, just do the reverse steps.

That's about it for now, any more ?'s, just PM, cuz I probabaly will forget to come back,k?

I just installed a new HU in my 02 with Mach460 I used a metra harness and install kit. The harness uses the factory Mach amps and the install kit is a plastic piece that fills the extra space with a small compartment that holds a couple CDs. Everything works and sounds great. I'm sure your 99 needs different parts than my 02 but contact Metra and they'll give you the correct part #s for your year, make sure you tell them you have the 460. They usually respond the same day.

as far as the factory spot under the deck get a pocket. They came from the factory with the base stereo. they fit from 94 and up and they just pop in and gives you a space to put things. go to some local shops they should have pre fab boxes and with a 10 it shouldnt be hard to get one to fit. facing backwards usually gives the most bass.
