So im finally getting the car on the road. I had a couple of problems and pulled a couple of codes... One was the map sensor and EGR.. so i decided to go the easiest route (when the car is warm, if push in the clutch, it idles realllyyyy low, and most time dies) and replace the map sensor. so i picked up a used one from the mustang junkyard close by me, and when i went to install it, i noticed the one in there had a hose coming off the left side of it running to the vaccum tree? i thought map sensors didnt have this, so i installed the new one i got, and plugged the vac tree, now when i start it, it will revv to 1500 and die. then ill re-start it, it will revv and ill help it idle but she idles at like 400? is that line susposed to be hooked up to the map sensor??

If you have mass air, you might need a different unit... or you may be able to use the speed density unit without the vacuum line (I am not sure). I also got a MAP code (I believe it was 33, but not sure). I purchased a new one from ford, $100-$150, installed it, and I don't think I noticed any difference in the way the car ran. I think I even drove the car without the MAP plugged in and it was fine.

i think it should be fine as long as you hook up the vacuum line. what you got was a BAP from a mass air car. your car came with a MAP but i think they are interchangeable

I am pretty sure that Mass Air cars do not use the vacuum line. Mine doesn't and it is a 91. Whether or not the units are interchangeable though, I do not know. Just try it out and if you get the same code, then you know you have a problem. Make sure you reset the computer.

Ok i pulled the codes and im not showing a map sensor anymore. and the engine light as gone off. I think that it didnt want to idle for me possibly because the codes had been cleared, i reset the ECU and with the heads, x cam and intake it was just re adjusting itself. seems to run fine when its all warmed up, ill let it cool and try to restart and see if i have any idle issues when cold. Thanks everyone!! :nice:
