I've owned MANY fox bodies and this is my first venture into the gen 1 stang. I am very happy so far, but I have a question regarding the Mark VIII fan; I used it in a few fox bodies w/stroker motors w/much compression producing a lot of heat. They work great to keep the car very cool in the AZ heat. Question is why don't I see anyone in the gen 1 using the fan? I've done search's on the board and see ppl talking about it, but nobody actually using one.

I have a stroked 351 going into the 65, I am cutting some of the fan area out for more 'exposure' and going w/a Ron Davis, slightly larger than stock, radiator. I want to run a Mark VIII fan, due to its ability to suck in air at an amazing rate. Anyone use one? If so how much fabrication? FYI I am asking as this is a couple of months down the road, but not better time then the present to plan :D

I to havent seen anyone with classic's running them, but i plan on it. My friends with fox bodies do and they do a great job keeping the motor cool. If i get to that point before you I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey whats up Dylan.
I have been looking into using a Viper fan since it pulls about the same air as a mark fan. The only thing thats stopping me is size. I plan on cutting up my radiator support to fit a fox radiator but I need space on the side for tubing. The viper fan is about the same size as the mark but not as deep. its pretty close though. Best price I have found is on makeitmopar.com
I need to find the p/n agian if your interested. I have been looking at ron davis' site and he has sells radiators with fans and tanks. he even has a cross flow for the first gen that i really want. i dont want to email and ask for the price because im sure i wont like it. but they sure are sweet. i have a brand new black magic fan here but im sure that wont be enough here in AZ.

one reason the mark Vlll fan is rarely used is the current draw. it draws 33 amps in contiunous use, and 100 amps on start up:eek:  . you need to upgrade to a high amp alternator to maintain battery charge if you use this fan. you also need to use a minimum 75 amp relay to power the fan, or get a delta controls fan controller that turns the fan on slowly, and regulates the fan speed to maintain proper engine temp.

I was told you need a 130 amp alt minimum to run the Mark VII fan and it is popular with the 5.0 guys. Check out the Dodge Intrepid fan, it is equally as popular, a lower profile and much lower amp draw. It was sold for years as the "Ramcharger" fan by a defunct company named Ramcharger. I knew who the real manufacturer of the fan was, but can't remember.

I looked into the late model Mopar fans (Intrepid/LHS/etc) but the mounting holes are on the ends. I'm running a crossflow radiator and the mounting holes end up on the tanks. I have now found another dual fan setup that Nissan Maxima/Ultima cars use and the mounting holes are on the top. Can't find any cfm or amperage ratings on them though. Isn't the MarkVII fans similare to the Taurus fans?

For max cooling nothing beats the Mark VIII. Sure it draws ~100A at start up, runs a solid 30A while running, but it's CFM is hard to beat. The Taurus fan shares the same motor, but has a much different blade; the MVIII blade allows the increased air flow.
The fans are popular here in the AZ heat; 110+ during the summer time. My last 3 high compression stroked fox bodies all had them in it and helped keep the cars 180*-190*. All other fans mentioned are either marginal, at best, or can't move enough air. In other places they might work tho. I'm really not interested in using another fan as I have a 378, 11:1, big cam motor going in my 65 and need max air flow. I'm gonna have to do some measuring, cutting, and more measuring. I'm fairly sure it will fit; I'll take pics and measurements as I go for others.

Luis, the RD rads you saw are in excess of 600$. I talked to them last week and almost crap my pants when I was told the price. I'm going w/the standard fox body fan. I have a brass 3-core here to mock up. Waiting on an extra Mark VIII from Paul #1. Good thing I have the MIG.
