My wife has her hobbies and I have mine, we both make around the same amount and so long as I don't dig into our savings and let her drive it from time to time she is happy. For big purchases, I just let her know in advance and then allow her to spend an equal amount on herself if she wishes.
A good friend of mine had a good system, he would tell his wife he borrowed like $100 dollars from me, then she would give him money to pay me back and he would stash it in a jar he kept in his garage. He would do this a couple times a month and then use the money for a big purchase for whatever project he had. So she wouldnt get suspicious he had a couple ebay accounts and would set up a fake sale to show her that he got a great deal on it. I hope after 30 years of marriage I dont end up doing all the cloak and dagger stuff for my car addiction to much work.

The problem is not so much the money spent on the hobby cars, but the fact there are four parts cars in her back yard, and one more in my other house back yard. For some reason I do not understand, she does not like parts cars that save hundreds over me buying stuff one item at a time. Never will understand women!

My wife is a stay at home mom with our 2 small children. I'm the only one that works and bring home the money. She doesnt mind what I do with extra money as long as bills are paid, here lately that extra money is getting smaller and smaller though.. lol

At the moment I have literally 100 dollars left at the end of the month and thats if I dont spend it on the soda machine at work. I look at it as the car will always be there waiting for me when I am ready for it.

Some men are idiots when it comes to money and without a wife they would be on welfare. I know a few who fall into that category.

Give the financial fight time. Its coming for you.

Not for everyone. I've been married ten years and we haven't ever had a fight over money.

This is not cloak and dagger. This is out and out lying and deception. It is not the basis of a long lasting marriage. I might make note that your friend "HAD a good system". I'm guessing he's no longer married?

You know, she knows I'm a car guy. That's my hobby and my career. I've worked on cars and sold parts since I was 16 years old for a job. But for a hobby, I've been right next to my Dad since the age of 5. I was right in the garage. So she knows that's how I make my living.

The biggest part of why I get off easy with this subject is prolly cause every stang I've built, I've made money on. I don't put out adds that say "Over $20,000 invested....$8,500 obo. I'll usually make $1,500+ off each car sometimes as much as $2,500-$3,000. That profit goes into savings, or into the next project to make another profit.

Plus, we save so much money on cars. We don't have car payments. I fixed her a nice Grand Prix GXP and I drive an old Ford pick up. I've done all repairs and maintainence stuff. I've NEVER paid for a brake job, oil change, tire rotation, ect.... Most people are $350+ a month car payment plus maintenance.

Divorced after 11 years of marriage. Had a few Mustangs prior to that, was not allowed during that time.

So, now I have my toy (never ending project). My girlfriend who there has been long term talks with LOVES it.

Wow, this thread is scary, my woman and I met while drag racing, every occasion she gets me summit gift cards, and i get her car parts too. No asking for anything in either direction, she wants something I do everything in my ability to get it for her, and she does the same, life is too short to put up with a bitch that wont support you.

My suggestion...coming from a woman is find someone who loves stangs as much as you do..lol. Seriously, its compromise. Im sure there are lots of goodies she wants...coach purses...whatnot. strike deals with her lol.
