Mass air flow

i rotated my mass air flow so that the wires running to it were not so apparent. i had a guy at a shop yesterday say that it was not set up to run rotated that it needed to be the way it came. i did not really understand his reasoning why. sounds like BS but i have noticed the car has slight flucuation in idle. checked the timing, all vacums, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil is all brand new. it is not bad though, i could deal with it. i dont want to buy a new MAF now if i dont have to. anyone else heard of this. thanks.

yeah...it needs to be like it came. turning the top piece turns the sensor inside the maf and you arent getting a proper reading

thanks, i realize i was a little unclear. i rotated the entire sensor housing. not just the black box on top so where the bolt used to go to the bracket, they are now facing up. my clearity sometimes suffers.

oh, you should be fine with that than. mine is kinda angled too. shouldnt be anything to worry about

It may not still be on there but it should have a bracket(with 2 bolts) that was bolted inside the engine bay and then attatches to a certain spot on the MAF. This is to ensure that it is NOT rotated. Good Luck!

yeah that went when the cold air went on. bbk did not feel that it was not needed for it to bolt the same as the original. so you are saying that the housing should not be rotated. does anyone know what the two small black boxes are right below the mass air flow, the wires came through the wire loom that runs on top of the strut tower

what you did is called "clocking" the MAF. Some guys with newer cars will do it a little and supposedly it adds a little power or something. Flipping it upside down, however, might not be a good idea, because you may move it out of the densest part of the airflow. I'd put it back, and find another way to make the wires look good.
