well i opened up the air box and boy was i dissapointed at the airfilter i saw...it was a standard filter that was so rediculously jamed in there it wasnt sealing anything....i looked at the mass air screen and its covered with small twigs and grass and what not so i took the filter out looked dirty enough to be original 176,000 lol..i think it could have something to do with my poor idle and stalling problem maybe...anyways i want to do a k&n cone filter does the mass air come out of that big contraption or do i have to buy an aftermarket maf????

the maf sensor is removable from the plastic housing its within just remove the plastic housing and pull housing apart by unlocking the plastic tabs with a screwdriver then remove the 4 bolts holding the sensor inside the housing if you look at the pic. i posted below you can see two of the plastic locking tabs i'm talking about its fairly easy to remove once you get started...you will have to buy an aftermarket cold air intake and the maf will fit into it as in the pic below of mine. i think K&N also makes an adapter and cone filter that will bolt to maf if you want to run the original rubber air tube. i bought this cold air intake off e-bay for about $25...ensure you clean the maf sensor before installing i cleaned mine as stated in this link.... http://www.muscularmustangs.com/maintain.php

picture of my old housing with the maf removed which i sold to an individual for $30 who wanted a stock replacement for his stang which had one that was cracked...if you look approx. 3 inches below the metal locking clip you will see the plastic tab that you will use a screwdriver to pry up on to pull housing apart to expose maf sensor theres also one tab on the top and one on the backside.
