max Hp. with stock block

I want to upgrade to 327 with AFR 185 heads 10.1 comp. Victer jr. intake, looking for around 400+ hp. Will my stock block hold out< or should I wait for a Dart sportsman Block. I would really like to keep my block. Ideas Please

It depends on your block and luck, I've seen stock 302 blocks hold 600rwhp but the question is for how long. I would rather have a dependable block than push an old tired block. So how many miles are on your block and what condition is it in? There are alot of factors involved. Good luck

my block was just bored 30. before I bought it Guy said it has 20,000 on it. total about 100,000

I was at 375rwhp with a stock block and forged pistons w/100 shot of gas..I just bought a blower, so when its installed i'll let you know what the hp is

i personally think the best part to a motor is the block.. id wait for the Dart although the stock MIGHT hold up.. you just never know.

I agree, the problem is all the money you spend on the machine work will be lost if the stock block cracks. I agree save up and buy a good block. The sportsman block is always an option.

from what ive seen and read, blocks tend to split right down the middle around 550 crank hp

I was told 500 hp is right at the breaking point. 500hp with the right tune and it will last!

A friend of mine put up these numbers with a BIG SHOT nos kit , lasted bout 15 runs , and blew the four middle pistons threw the oil pan and snapped all four of the stock rods in the middle cylinders
