I was thinking about buying the MM Steering Shaft. I wanted to know if it was the same size as the factory shaft or is it slimmer/wider? My factory steering shaft is pretty close to my headers. They dont contact each other but they are very close together.

The shaft itself is slightly "beefier" than the stock unit. However, you get rid of the rag joint. So, if that's where you're close to hitting then it will get you more clearance.

I have MAC longtubes with the MM steering shaft and it does not hit anywhere. If you go with the MM unit you don't really need to worry about it being close. It's solid metal so it won't get too hot and break like the stock part.

What is this "rag joint" and what is the advantage of swapping out to a MM steering shaft?

Rag joint = rubber and fabric joint which allows u-joint-like flexibility plus shock absorption at the expense of steering feel

MM steering shaft = aftermarket steering shaft which replaced rag joint with u-joint, providing crisper, more direct steering and improved feedback, but at the expense of transmitting unwanted as well as wanted vibrations
