k, a while back the guy at the parts store talked me into putting synthetic oil into my car(cant remeber the name brand but it was expensive)

alright tonight i was helping my friend get his drag car ready to go to the track.
when we got to the track i decided to run my car(first time i ever ran it and i was scared to death) after three passes my low oil lamp started flashing. he had havoline 10w-30 in his car and not thinking i was like alright. so i poured some in and now i'm scared.

i'm planning on draining the thing tomorrow and changin the oil but wat do i need to put in it sythetic or what. a guy at the dragstrip said if i go back from sythetic it will mess my motor up bad. is this true and wat can i do to fix it.

please help guys i'm having a really bad day and it just keeps gettin worse.

you can mix the oil it will not hurt your engine.ford 5.0 are known for burning oil 1 quart per 1000 miles is considered normal.Synthetic oil will burn more than regular oil. on high mileage engines during summer you can run 20w-50 ,in winter run 10w-30.thinner oils have less friction or drag which can slightly help on drag strip. you will not hurt your engine going back to regular oil.

when did you do oil change?
How many miles on the motor?
Did you check your dipstick?

Synthetic oils are cleansing oils they clean as they lubricate.
So it could be possible that it cleaned the stuff between the gaskets and the oil leaked out.

Just change it back to the dino oil.

HI, YOU WILL BE OK.
Synthetic Oil will not mess up your engine, reguardless of the oil you have used previously. Sound's like someone told you an old wives tail about synthetic.
Also remember when breaking in a new or freshly rebuilt motor to use non-synthic
during the break in for proper seating of the rings and other internal surfaces.
Dont worrie about it every thing will be ok.

A given weight of synthetic is often less viscous than a given dino oil, and as said, they do tend to burn more (past rings at WOT, or through the top-end after sitting).

Mixing is not a biggie IMHO. The bottle should even say that you can do it, and many do 'home brews' with their oils, where they mix them like you did. I used to do this often myself.

Going back and forth between oils never made much difference to me. You should not have issue going back to dino oil if you choose.

you should stay with synthetic. cleans while it burns and is better for your car, you pay more for a better product. dollar a quart at the grocery store is no good.

thank you very much guys....the guys at the drag strip were telling me that it will eat through my barrens and stuff

its been a while since i did the oil change...actually this weekend would be the 2000 mile mark. i'll change it today.

Unless I'm missing something, the guy at the race was vague at best (PAE basestock and prolonged sitting can supposedly cause issues since PAE has an affinity for water and it clings to metal quite well).

That would not even begin to be a concern for me personally, and it's not something I'd tell folks because it's such a fine point. It's something you'd tell a car collector whom never starts his cars.

The bottom line is that with any quality, approved oil, you're just fine. It doesnt matter if it's dino oil or synthetic, it's fine. Dino oils these days have become outstanding (even over how they were not long ago).
