May I pick your brain?

Need some input ... i'm currently in the market for a 331 stroker , not sure if i want to a short block or just go with the long block with AFR 185 heads , either way would the stock cobra intake (upper and lower) be OK for this set up or should i invest in something else - my future plans include a turbo if not next year the year after - also i'm currently running the Ford Motorsport "F" cam in a stock cobra motor should i stick with this "stick" or should i go a little milder? any info would be great.. thanx again
 
The Cobra intake will be the restriction on that set-up with or with out the heads, but it really depends on your intentions with the car. What type of HP are you looking for down the road, is thos a street car or a weekend warrior, or race?

With a nice stroker and all the goodies I would go with a custom cam so you do not leave a lot of power on the table.

Where in PA are you located?

The car is street car with some intentions to run the 1/4. I'm located in the Pottsville/Minersville area... urself??


Also on porting the lower, what should i match it to ??? the heads the plenum ??i would like to keep the cobra intake just because it IS one lol ...

The intake even fully ported will really become a restriction when boost is applied, in NA form the lower is the largest issue. If you really want to keep the Cobra I would have it Extrude Honed, worth the money but expect to pay $550 to have the upper and lower done. Ifn fully ported form we have made over 550RWHP with a Cobra intake.

We ran into the same issue on our 93 Cobra, building a new motor is one thing but when you open the hood it was nice to still appear stock looking Cobra. We Extrude Honed the upper and lower, then fully polished the outside for some bling.

With a 331, RNH Ported Cobra GT-40 irons, the Extrude honed 93 Cobra intake, 1.7 stock rockers, 2031 cam, headers, MAC cat back and MAC catted H-pipe, 36# inj, 83mm Pro-M and a A-trim making 9.5psi we made 425/465 to the tires. The TQ curve was awesome and the car was an absolute blast to drive. You would never know it was a low 11 sec, high 10 sec car, once we through the stock wheels on it looks stock as a rock.

The new DART block combo I am building for it is wilder, Dad really didn't want to part with the Cobra intake but it would really hinder us from making the 700hp+ we are looking for. So we packed it up and put it on the shelf....

Here's some pic's of my dads 93 Cobra, it won All Ford Carlise and All Ford Nationals many years, even was picked as best late model from Mustang Monthly Magazine..

that's a really nice snake ... are you the owner or an enployee... i'd like to meet up with ya at the shop or whereever and chit chat .. if we can work something out maybe i'll just go with you guys all the way .. i was gonna go with DSS and more than likely do the long block ... let me know ... thanx for the advice thus far
 
Thanks, there was a lot of hard work in that car, I think dad has about 45 hours in polishing the manifold but it looks as smooth as a babies bottom.
