Holy crap, IT WAS NOT MY THEORY!!! I DID NOT STATE "...MODIFYING YOUR TRANSMISSION DIDN'T MAKE IT AN AOD ANYMORE". EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE, IN FACT. I was saying the same thing you just said. I disagreed with Aliate X posting about my tranny not being an AOD cause I have an aftermarket VB. I do have a hardened input shaft, a VB, and a "host full of other goodies". AND MY TRANNY IS STILL AN AOD.

edit. not even worth arguing anymore, if your STOCK AOD is better than my 5 speed, then you should have no problem beating me.

Kids play nice. It's not even worth doing a shift kit, just spend the money on a valve body, this way the 1 d 1 shuffle is eliminated and it will be 1,2,d,od. Now 4:10's are nice but what are your intentions with the car?? Do you plan on adding a power adder down the road or all motor??? For example, with a turbo car like mine, they run off of load, therefore a low gear such as 2:73, 3:27, or 3:55 is needed. With a blower car 3:55 or 3:73 are good. NA, 3:73 or 4:10 or higher. Decide what your future plans are first before trying to beat some rice. Just keep your mouth shut to them and wait until your armed and ready, then go pissing on people.

oh crap, what have I started? Seriously, it works, but it is way hard on ****. And be warned, it is addictive. You start off in 1, hammer it, shift to D when you want to go into 2nd, AFTER the car shifts to 2nd, slam the shifter back into 1. The tranny will stay in 2nd. When you want to shift into D, simply upshift to D.
You have been warned, this is way hard on tranny parts. I say use it sparingly.

Oh, we heard ya, but your theory is full of holes. You stated that modifying your transmission didn’t make it an AOD anymore?!? I've got a built AOD (4R70W actually) and it consists of a lot more than just the use of a shift kit like your average Stanger has. One doesn't even need to remove the transmission from the vehicle to install a shift improvement kit and it can be done right there in your driveway. And even then, that's considered "minimal" or even "essential" mods. Once you get into a serious aftermarket piece with a manual valve body, modified pump, trans-brake, hardened input/output shafts along with a host full of other goodies....all this while the case itself is wrapped in a steel scatter shield, then you can consider your transmission...."Modified" or “After Market”….and I haven’t even gotten into torque converter selection. Hell, I've got more work and money into just my torque converter than most AOD owners have into their entire transmission.

Like I said, a shift kit and a transmission cooler it's no more considered a serious modification on an AOD, than a 5-speed with an aftermarket shifter and/or heavy duty clutch! It's just common practice. If an owner wants to consider their or someone else’s transmission “built” because it’s got a shift kit in it, I’d say it was more for bragging purposes than anything. Yes a stock AOD sucks from a performance aspect, but so what…..a stock T5 sucks too! A lot of components on Fox Mustangs, or Mustangs in general suck, that’s why we hate ‘em and love ‘em at the same time! It gives us something to play with and bitch to our buddies about on one hand and also gives you that sense of accomplishment and pride when you swap it out. C’mon….don’t tell me I’m the only guy here who thought swapping out a K&N filter into his car as a first mod was a really big deal at the time.

I couldnt have said it any better. An AOD with a shift kit and tranny cooler is not "BUILT" NOW and AOD with a VB, hardened shafts, diffrent sprigs things like that, that could be considered "BUILT" . SO changing my sig to "BUILT AOD" is stupid as hell don't ya think?
I've been doing the 1-d-1-d shuffle for a LONG time, and he's absolutely right it tears up the tranny but i dont care i still do it anyway because if you dont do it, the car is slow as a dog.
I still say go with 4;10's i have them in my car and its been a daily driver ever since high school which was 6 years ago. all you have to do is pop it in OD and it all good on the highway. I've been in the Marines stationed all over and i used to drive my car from south carolina to St.louis all the time, crusin at like 85-90 the whole way sometimes a little faster. Never any problems.
I say get yourself a shift kit (cheap), some 4:10 gears, and a nice little nitrous system and you should be set!

It wont shift back to first UNLESS you didnt shift it at all. Trust me just go out and do it and it will be fine. Stomp on it in first till you get to say 5200 and up to D and back to 1 then run it up to 5200 and back to D.
Remeber 1-d back to 1 right away-d
so say it with me now 1-d-1-d-od and your all set. Good luck!

yeah,,,Roland69 a V6 92-95 or so honda prelude, that shows off every time he spots me around the track revs like hell..

and the AOD OEM shortshifting is true, its the only way to force the 2nd gear to hold up for more RPM, otherwise it goes to 3ed too early....

and its very cool, you do it once, you'll feel like doing it all the time...

It won't drop back into first after a certain speed. You'd have to slow down for it to do so. A nice little Ford safety feature built in especially for idiots like us.

I think you got the prelude in the bag... can't say for the nissan. I've rode in a couple preludes and I came away very unimpressed. When my stang was stock down to the airfilter it could beat them... Don't worry about, go out and race them.. If you lose oh well.. theres always someone faster than you.
