ok heres the problem im having,88 gt,all new brake pads shoes and drums, after sitting overnoght when i go to drive it the brakes feel locked up for about 3 seconds then everything is fine.i can drive and park it all day and it doesnt do it.park it for the night, come out in the morning and again there locked up :bang: wtf! i also should mention i dont use the parking brake i always just leave it in first gear.anybody ever had this problem or have a suggestion on a possible cause?

Does it happen more often when it is humid out? Do you park near sprinklers? You might have surface corrosion forming overnight. It takes a few revolutions and a smidge of heat to get rid of it.

Good luck.

thanks for the quick reply hissin, that was my first thought that it was moisture but i dont park close to any source of water, granted it has been raining though.any suggestions for keeping the moisture out?also what i dont understand is i have 4 cars and the stang is the only one it happens too:shrug:

When was the last time you bled the brake system? I had a similar problem with my truck. In the mornings it was almost like the caliper would lock up with the slightest touch. After a little bit then it was okay and braked normal, like the day before. I bled the system and it seems fine now. I just assumed that I was getting moisture into the system over time. Not sure if it was just a mere coincedence but it doesn't do it any longer. Also, I would be curious if the rear brake cylinder is locking up on you because it has gone bad. Good luck.

i bled them when i replaced all the brakes,im gonna bleed em again today i guess anything is worth a shot at this point its kinda driving me crazy.

Try replacing the brake hose that goes between the body and rear axle. If the hoses are old, sometimes the inner liner will colapse and block the return of brake fluid. The result is pressure trapped in the line and it holds the brakes on.

The other possible culprit is the proportioning valve sticking and holding pressure on the rear brakes.
