Way up in Maine
I am looking into getting one of thease, and was wondering if anyone here has ever put one has had any expiriance with them. I have heard they make a big improvement to gas milage if you dont tune them up to far. Thanks for any imput:)

If your car is tuned and running right to begin with, then you won't see a mileage improvement. I put together my MS-I v2.2 a few weeks ago, but have yet to test it on the engine I bought it to (at least initially) be used on.

On a side note, I've been trying to track down a version of MSnS-E code that has a dedicated anti-lag function, but the guy who wrote it disappeared into Iceland or Ireland wherever he's from. Apparently some people got the code, but other than that there aren't any places to DL it.

I bought one and assembled it, but never made the engine run. It was a fun project, but the car was me daily driver then, and I never had the needed laptop and sold it eventually. I'll build another pretty soon. I'll be knocking on the door of 300 hp dang quick, and that may be the easiest hp gain and easiest way to get bigger injectors in properly.

Can anyone comment on effectiveness of a USB to serial port addapter? I was reading something before where some people have problems with them. I have access to laptops, but they are too knew to have a serial port.

Don't forget the other option is a J3 adapter. However, those are a much bigger PITA to use unless you have an EPROM emulator also. If you do, it's just half as big a PITA. You still have to know about binary vs hex code, bit offsets, ROM editing, address files, etc. I might go this way on the SVO just to maintain originality.

On the USB-Serial adapter, there seem to be quite a few people using them without issue. My laptop isn't quite 3 years old and it has a DB-9 on the back. That makes me wonder when serial ports started disappearing on laptops. Another option is to get ~20ft of decent CAT5 cable and make a DB-9 for use on a desktop.

Yeah... mine sucks! It's transfer rate isn't fast enough to keep up with the data stream. I have to set the communication interval pretty high, so therefore my datalogs don't have enough datapoints. It works ok for just loading code, changing settings, etc, but that's about it. When I upgraded to the very latest MSnSE code, the problem was much worse, I suppose because there's more things going on in that code. Anyway, the other day I bought a PCMCIA to serial card for my laptop. Should be here sometime this week or early next. A friend of mine uses one and says it works great, so I'm really hoping this will work and I can get more accurate datalogs.

IIRC Megasquirt is a small simple homebuilt computer using a Motorola 68000 CPU to control the fuel injection system.

It is fully programmable and modifiable and replaces the cars computer. The advantage is full tuneability on injector pulse width, pulse length, etc.

Allows you to use almost any injectors you want without having to worry about compatibility.

Megasquirt can also control Throttle body injectors too (I know thats not what I am thinking of, the old mid 80's fuel injection units that looked like a carburetor) Several guys on Ford Six Performance are looking at using a Megasquirt and a GM throttlebody unit to get rid of 1960's 1bbl carbs.

Last I knew there was also a Megajolt which was a do it yourself distributorless ignition system too.
