Dan's numbers sound pretty close to me. A 98 Mustang is rated at about 225 FWHP right? Subtract about 18-20% for driveline loss when running an automatic and your there. If it were a stick the loss would be more along the lines of 12-15% since you don't have all the internal friction of the automatic.
Another thing to consider is the air quality. For instance, at 3PM yesterday the temp was 79*F, Baro 29.93 in/hg and the dewpoint was 68*F. That will result in about a 1-2% drop in power right there due to the lower air density.
So taking your rated HP of 225 and deducting a minimum of 19% and a maximum of 22% gives you a range of 175-182 RWHP. Not knowing what mods Dan has that would add a few more RWHP to the end numbers.
If Dan has some dragstrip performance numbers and knows the race weight of the car he could check the dyno figures against a HP calculator. I have found these calculators to be very good estimators of HP and good tuning aids as well.

seems a little off to me,

TJ off the line and up until TJ got into 3rd gear...:damnit:
