Metric Serpentine Belt???

Strange Belt Question:

I ordered a serpentine belt from an online company I have used before (very good price -- www.rockauto.com -- $8.83) and just recieved it today. Now I ordered an 84.5" belt for my application. I recieved a package that has the correct number and cross-references on it. On the belt itself it lists 6PK2145.

I was concerned at first (getting ready to send it back and be PO'd), but upon doing a little detective work, I found that this seems to be a metric belt -- possibly for a Mercedes or BMW, etc. It crosses over to the belt that I wanted in SAE. Maybe I won't send it back then.

So the question is -- should I be concerned about it? It would seem to me it's just a different measurement, can't see there being any other differences. It's 6-rib, made in the USA, looks like good quality actually. It has the solid ribs, not broken up -- which I've heard back and forth on which is better.

Anyone else ever get one of these?

Opinions or info?

is it the same dimensionally as what you need? if so i would run it. interesting (i too have had good luck with RA).

I just had to get a different length belt because of going from a 302 to a 351 and some juggling with non-stock accessory brackets.

I forget the brand name, but it was a name brand like either goodyear or gates, and the part number included the metric length, so it seems that's fairly common?

The calculators I used puts it at 84.45" compared to the 84.5" that I wanted, so the difference is probably negligible. I'm thinking I'll just run it, but wanted to make sure nobody had heard of anything funny with a metric belt. Looks just like any other I've ever had, except the part number on it is different.

It may be so. Most of the others I've had are brands like Dayco, etc. -- and maybe I just never noticed it being on there???

Should be 90.5" w/ A/C or 84.5" w/o A/C.

Adam, for what you paid, i would not sweat it (unless 5 hundreths makes a difference with your modded belt routing). just my thinking.

BTW, im sure there are a million apps for any given belt size. it could even be the vendor/distribution source from RA - they have some with metric sizing notes rather than SAE (for sale outside the USA). i have not measured a parts store "SAE" belt but it might be a few hundreths off too. i really dunno.

Definitely true. I think the shipping was as much as the belt! I couldn't pass up the deal to see if they were any good or not, and so far it looks like a good belt. I know I used to be able to get them for around $25-$30, and now around here I had a hard time finding anyone less than $40! That's what started my search -- and generated these hopefully good results.

Dont use the metric size belts. They are designed specifically for low tension/torque applications and will stretch more than the SAE units. The six rib design also will not match up on the pullies as they are .4 mm thicker on the ribs and are intetended for pullies .8 mm deep compared to the .6 mm from the stock pullies.

Ok, i just made all that up. I would think they are both exactly the same and i bet the .05" difference doesnt even exist, one or both of the measurements are probably just rounded up or down some. should work fine, next time i need a belt ill probably go through them.
