MGW or Tri-Ax

I'm going to be upgrading my shifter soon and wanted to get peoples advice on what they feel is a better shifter and why? Thanks.

Search "Shifters". You'll get about 10,000 threads on it. The majority will say MGW.

K thanks. I took a look and I think I'll be going with the MGW. Actually, your review of yours is what sold me. My mustangs shifter feels like crap. I get jealous when I drive my wife's Audi it's a 6 speed manual and shifts like a dream. I know this is like comparing apples to oranges but I would love to have a shifter that felt even somewhat close to that.

While you are on the MGW site check out their interior and engine bay dress up items.

I installed all the interior stuff in the chrome finish in my car it really makes a nice but subtle difference.

I especially like the cigarette lighter.

Try to avoid comparing your Mustang to an Audi this will just make you sad...

Not on an '04 Cobra it is'nt. A co-worker of mine had a Tri-Ax and switched to an MGW. Night and day difference, but I guess it depends on which one is most comfortable for you.

tri ax is very notchy feeling.
i have ran the tri ax, pro 5.0 and MGW and i always end up with the MGW.

my 3650 had a tri ax when i bought it and i swapped to a MGW
my viper T56 had a pro 5.0 (total crap) and i QUICKLY swapped it to a MGW

Find someone with both and try them out and judge yourself.

They are both good shifters, personal preference usually is the deciding factor

I'm one of the few not in love with the MGW. I pulled my MGW after the first trip to the track. I'll stick with my 7 year old UPR shifter. The MGW gate is too close. I did the old 3rd to 2nd shift trick and said to hell with it. Look around at any NMRA event and you won't find the fast stick cars running the MGW

I know what you mean about being jealous of the shifting in your wife's Audi. I've tried searching but haven't been able to find any threads about which shifter is the most German feeling. Porsche, BMW, VW, Audi - something approaching that feel for daily driving is more important to me than racing concerns.

I have driven a car with a Tri-Ax and it is worlds better than the truck shifter the factory put in there and from what I can tell, just about any of them are an order if magnitude better than stock.

I currently run an MGW...but I havent taken my current Mustang to the track. I bought the MGW more for comfort, not for shifting at the racetrack. I have had a Pro5.0, TriAx, a generic shifter and the MGW, and for around town I like the MGW, for the track I would get the TriAx...
