MGW shfiter questions

best shifter bar none!

the previous owner installed a triax on my gt. i was used to the mgw on my old v6 so i was like "omg, this triax sucks compared to my mgw" so i bought a new mgw and sold the triax.

the quality is awesome, the fit and finish is beautiful.

its pretty damn stiff for a couple weeks until it gets broke in though, but the shifts are perfect, i havent missed any shifts with it, where as i did a few times with the triax

the MGW is an excellent shifter! All shifts are effortless, just push/pull the lever and you're in gear. When I installed mine, I used a silicon gasket, but I would not recommend that - they fall apart really easily. Use the RTV that MGW supplies, it seals up well and keeps things fairly quiet. I also replaced my inner boot because it was cut from a previous shifter install. I love my shifter!

I hate to whore up the thread but how does this compare with the pro 5.0 shifter? Assuming that there is a comparison...

Well they do compare... it's just that the MGW compares better :D

MGW is the highest quality shifter I have ever felt (Triax, Pro5.0, Hurst included), shortest, and simply the best.

Wow it sounds like the MGW shifter is the best on the market right now.
So, the MGW shifter is very quiet? Is it quieter than all the other shifters?
Does this MGW shifter find 3rd gear for you? Because with the stock shifter
I have missed 3rd once or twice before in the past.Does it just go right into
reverse with no issues? Thanks for the info guys! :nice:

Yes, the MGW is built to help you nail that 2-3 speed shift. The way the shifter is positioned in relation to the way the shifter is spring loaded, it's very easy to find 3rd gear. Given this, you have to give it a "little tug" (compared to the stock shifter) in order to place the shifter in first gear, but you get used to that pretty fast. It feels so much better than the stock shifter, it is unbelievable!!!:nice: I have no problems finding reverse what-so-ever, however while I was reading in the owners manual...there is a note from FORD that if you ever have trouble finding reverse, due to the transmission locking it out, you are supposed to put the shifter in neutral, release the clutch, then press clutch back in, and put shifter in reverse. So, if you were having problems, or have heard of people having problems, it is most likely the tranny, and has nothing to do with the shifter. Like I said, I have had NO problems!!:nice: Also, in comparison to the pro 5.0 (my friend has one on his 03 GT). The shifts seem to be comparable as far as the shortness & the way the shifter feels, but the noise level of the MGW shifts are quitier, due the the inner boot still being completely intact + the shifter design. I also prefer the position of the MGW handle, as opposed to the Pro 5.0 (it is really low), though I know you can purchase a new handle, it is not adjustable like the MGW handle. As was stated earlier, the installation is really simple. I also suggest changing the tranny fluid while you're at it. It is also very simple, and will help the way your tranny shifts as well. MGW all the way!!:nice:

That's cool! Intrusting....

The MGW is awesome. Best shifter I've ever used. The only times I've ever missed a gear were when I shifted hard and the damn tranni grinded (ground?), then when I let out the clutch it didn't engage fully and made the most horrible sound ever, but that is because I need better tranni fluid. The MGW is as close to perfect as you will find.

I can only compare it to stock but here's why I give it a four thumbs up... (hands and feet foo!)

The spring load on it brings you to the center of the three "alleys".

If you push the shifter from 2nd to 3rd and let it go side to side on it's own, you will find third. You have to fight it not to. If you need to drop out of 5th (overdrive) quick (like I do on my daily commute with all the other zombies on the road out there), I drop the shifter instead of look for the 4th gear. If you just drop it and not guide it, it will find 4th. It's not as "limp wristed" as the stock shifter so get used to the "notchiness" but the "notchiness is not bad at all. It's a great shifter to "bang hard".

And get a cool shift knob. MGW sells a few cool ones... :nice:

I have never ever missed a shift with the tri-ax I have....not saying its better than MGW because I dont want the horde of MGW nutswingers in here to kill me but its not exactly good of you to tell people the tri-ax missed a shift when it was driver error.

Thanks alot for that good write-up Henceforward you rock! :nice:
The MGW shifter instructions are good and detailed from what I hear
but, your write-up will come in handy. The Steeda Tri Ax shifter is a good shifter also guys that's what I have now! :D
I am looking to upgrade soon though.
