well it came in today and i was gonna try to put it in.. i got to readin the instructions and bout the shift stops... those of u with the mgw shifter, did you use the shift stops or not.. its an 03 saleen so i have the 3650.. it does recommend not using them but i just wanna be 100% sure i dont mess nothin up.. thanks

Dont use them. I did but after reading up on them some more, I may take them out. Note I was very conservative in where I placed them in relation to the shaft, about .25" away from it when in gear. May as well have not even used them.

I used them as well, but quite a few knowledgeable people said not to. They have internal shift stops, and inproperly installed shiftstops will increase wear on your gears.

All the people I talk to about the MGW shifter say NOT to use the
shift stops and even my mechanic said NOT to use them.

No stops on mine. MGW's products are right on. They would not sell or advise anything that would damage your car. You could also call George at MGW..he'll talk to you and explain. Good luck..you will like the shifter.

Didnt use them on mine. As Stang|ess said, the 3650 has internal shift stops so no need for them.

I just installed mine yesterday and left them out after talking to a few knowledgeable mechanics.

While we're on the topic of the mgw, what do you guys do when you take your car in for warranty work? Do you put the stock shifter back on, or just leave it? Does it make a difference if going in for drivetrain service versus something un-related. Don'r mean to hijack the thread, thanks.

Yea you don't use the stops with the 3650. It's pretty clear, from what I recall, it's in big bold letters in their directions.

No, I never swap out the MGW when I bring it in. Making the shifting more efficient is not sufficient reason for them to deny a warranty claim (unless of course you use the shift stops with the 3650.)

What about for the T-45..? Im expecting my MGW soon as well, and I read that the T-45 didnt have the internal shift stops, then I read somewhere else that they did. Should I use them or leave them out? Im not really a gear banger.

If the shift stops are improperly installed, then it doesn't matter if you're a "gear banger"...you could still do damage. I believe that the T-45 doesn't have internal stops...but I might be wrong. If they do have the internal stops, then don't use the ones on the MGW; if they don't have the internal stops, then do use the ones on the shifter, just be very careful about where you tighten them. Good luck!!

The T-45 does not have internal stops. Only the 3650 and T-56.

i bent the 1-2 shift fork after my MGW install. i put mine in b/c i didnt trust the "internal stops" one overshift and no more 2nd gear for me! it did give me an excuse for an aluminum flywheel and a mccleod clutch though. the only advice i can give you is dont power shift it. i will run the stops in mine from now on, but what you do is up to you!

I ended up using the stops, when I tightened the bolts there was no contact between the shifter and stops in any gears.

I guess the same would hold true for the tri-ax on a 3650.
