i used the stops on my t-45.

in my t-56 shifter manual, it states that tremec recommends you NOT use the stops. isint the 3650 a tremec trans also?

If you have the shift stops adjusted properly and they are on there tight, then they shouldn't be a problem. I have my stops in on my T-45, but according to Tremec -

"The major problem with aftermarket shifters is that they have stops on them. To install them correctly, you will have to remove the stops completely. Our transmissions are built with internal stops."

That is in their general transmissions FAQ, found here. I've talked to svttech76 about this and he has always said dont use shifter stops for the T-45 or TR3650, and I trust him so I would remove them... If your stops are misadjusted and the gear doesnt engage properly, it can cause permanent damage so just make sure that if you decide to use them that they are adjusted and not interfering with shifts

Tremec issued a tsb a while back that said the T-45 and T-3650 BOTH have built in shift stops. basicly every tremec trans comes with built in stops.

MGW in my car with T3650 tranny and no problems...kit said don't use them for the T3650 so I did not.

But people are still breaking shiftforks?

I say use them, but make sure you measure it well.

the shiftforks bending or breaking 9-10 times are cuased by poping out of gear. poping out of gear is caused by a UNDERSHIFT ( most of the time because of misadjusted shift stops) . when a partial engagement happens and then it pops out that puts the shift fork under a HUGE amount of stress.

The people who BUILT the tranny issued a TSB warning people about shift stops. the only way to have them adjusted right is to have them do nothing at all. So again why have them in there

isn't that one of the upgrades tremec did when they bought the borg-warner t-45?

yep if it says tremec on the case then it has built in shift stops.

Ok well not like i didnt believe you svttech but for further reinforcement i called MGW. I spoke with George who is a tech and i was absolutely amazed how awesome their customer support is. He spent 15 minutes explaining the history, how when and why shift stops are used.

" Shift stops were developed during the early 80's by hurst when older weaker transmissions were getting damaged from people muscling their shifts. The newer technology built into the T56 and the 3650 and even the T45 provide more than enough protection. Shift stops are more of a peace of mind protection rather than anything. The catcher is this. You cant technically damage your tranny by not installing the shift stops. But you absolutely can damage it if you install them incorrectly. To date i have owned 13 Dodge vipers, a handful of corvettes, and plenty of high powered mustangs, none of which i ever used shift stops for. The funny thing is no stock shifter comes with any shift stops, so you technically cannot damage your tranny with our mgw anymore than you could with your normal stock shfiter.

Now if the car is a purebred road racer or a track monster aiming for 1.5 60ft times then i would say yeah go ahead and put the stops in just in case since you are going to be hammering away at the tranny you might as well put them in. For a normal daily driver / weekend warrior. My Personal Opinion leave them out."

Im going with Svttech and George on this one, shift stops will not be installed in my T45.

Well crap, I used the stops. Sometimes when I shift hard into 3rd, it grinds after I left off the clutch, as if it...... ......didn't go into gear all of the way....AWESOME....now I have something to do before work tomorrow
