Mgw = Wow!

i just installed my new MGW Shifter with the red cruiser handle. here are my observations:

1. I am SOOO glad i got the Red handle instead of the Blue one. Not because of the shortness and having a long reach, but because there is such a HIGH shift effort(being a S.T.S. i was expecting some increased effort but, i never expected this much). i think the effort would be too high with the blue handle.

2. Maybe it needs to break in?

3. Very High Quality piece with great instructions!

4. The overall shift throws 1-2, 3-4, 5-R have a perfect throw distance.

5. The side to side gate distance 1-3, 3-5; 2-4, 4-R is VERY CLOSE. If you are someone that has never driven this car, you would have NO CLUE what gear you were in!

I ordered this Shifter and a Satin Aluminum "GT" Cigar Lighter(very high quality!) at 2:50am Wednesday morning. It arrived via UPS at about Noon Friday! I was expecting it around monday or tuesday.

overall.... 2 thumbs up for MGW!! Great product!

I was actually in Dracut yesterday.

I agree about the MGW shifter. It is a higher effort, but i expected that. When you let someone shift the gear who isn't used to it, the first thing they comment on is how close the gates are. You barely have to move the shifter over to find the 1-2 gate.

You get used to it very quickly though, so i can't even call them negatives now. I highly recommend the shifter.

Oh and after a few weeks of driving, my shifter did become a little easier to shift as it broke in.

It will get easier with time.

The blue handle (I have) takes a little effort but once it broke in and I was use to it the shifts seem really long

not sure about difference in throws but in my t-5 (fox) its really short, i'm used to it now, but the first couple times driving it, it felt almost too short, like my hand would slip off and hit the radio on the 2-3

Yeah I just put my MGW in tonight with the blue handle and I cant believe how awesome it is. Glad I went with it

I have my MGW on order, should be here Wednesday or maybe even Tuesday. I went with the blue handled "sportsman". I'll let ya know how it goes

The only thing i didn't like at first about the MGW was that the shifter knob wasn't cocked to the right side like the stocker. I kinda liked that.

I understand that the 360 degree feature kinda keeps you from using that, but most of us keep it in the 3rd quadrant of that 360 degrees anyway (between 6 and 9 o'clock). I wonder if any additional handles will be designed for the shifter...maybe one with a slight angle to the knob??

Not to sound retarded, but does this mean the shifter is more straight up and down? I have a Bullitt with the stock shifter and I really like the position of the handle. Will installing the MGW or other short-throw change this position much?

Also, a lot of you have mentioned the increased effort with the MGW - but it's not more so than a Tri-ax or Pro-5.0 right?

I personally think its a pretty easy shift, even with the blue handle, but I also have never used the stocker. I'm pretty sure all aftermarket shifters are relatively equal in terms of shift effort though

Glad to see more people like this shifter. I am thinking about putting one on order with the blue handle myself.

Any aftermarket shifter puts the knob in a different position. The MGW shifter just doesn't angle the knob at all. The threaded portion of the shifter handle is straight up and down. There is no kick to the driver's side or back.

With the stock leather GT knob, it does look a little odd, but with the Bullitt/Mach 1 knob, it's not that noticable.

Anyone have any problems with the MGW shifting into reverse. At times its difficult to get into reverse like i don't have the clutch all the way pushed in. I didn't have this problem with the stock shifter. Other than that its an absolutely great shifter.

None at all. The only difficulty is finding Reverse since the gates are so close. A few times i shifted into 4th thinking it was R.

5th gear is the only gear you have to really reach for. But then again, it was like that with the stock shifter. I can never get a smooth shift into 5th because of having to seek the 5th gear position and also because of the sharp 1500RPM difference between 4th and 5th due to the 0.62 5th gear ratio.
