Ok so I have done alot of reading and research on a mid pipe, right now I have on my '03 GT SLP loudmouth cat back exhaust, I love the sound!! It is so loud and puts fear into the hearts of children and the elderly, not to mention I once scared a dog enough to the point where it dragged its owner down the street runnign away from my car HAHA. Anyways I want to put on some new midpipes with high flow cats, I want to keep my car street legal since it's my only car so no off road pipes. I want the sound to improve, louder can be better but it needs to sound good! I have read that when people have put the SLP X pipe with high flow cats to a slp loudmouth exhaust that it sounds like crap, like tin cans and so forth, does anyone have any experience with this? Also what is better an H pipe or an X pipe as far as sound, horse power gains and torque gains? Any suggestions on manufacturers, I would love to do my entire exhaust as SLP but if it sounds like ass forget it!! Also if any one in the Baltimore area has a setup I could hear please let me know, I would hate to buy something and hate the sound! Thanks!

i hate to be the one to break the news to you, but your SLP LM1 cat-back will sound best with the stock H. With an aftermarket mid-pipe, H or X, its too loud, too raspy, and does not sound good.

This is coming from a lot of first hand experience.

I happen to like the sound of my SLP1 with the SLP catted X. It's still
fairly quiet at idle, but sounds decent. But it sounds great when you
stomp on it. Not everyone like the sound, but many friends agree it
sounds good. And Yes, loud. I actually set off a car alarm the other
week. Must have been pretty sensitive as I was not really on it that
much. I can't say what it would sound like with an H pipe. And Yes,
it sounded good with the stock H too. But I wanted to help the flow
and get rid of 2 of those converters. I am very happy with the X,
except for the install that requires a bit of work on the one side. Too
bad you don't live closer or I'd let you hear it in person.

Ive heard the SLP stuff in person.....ALL of them

Exhaust sound is subjective. What you like I may not and visa versa. I am just being as honest as I can to help the guy out. When I had the 1's with catted X, I hated the sound it made under normal to moderate accelleration. It did sound like a truck with glass-packs. With the O/R X........simply terrible. However I loved the sound they had with the stock H.
But thats just my opinion.

I love the sound of my exhaust right now, its load as hell when you stomp on it, I hate how its quiet durring idle but oh well, I want to get a setup on my car that will increase HP an dtorque but sound really good! Nothing is better than having people tell you how great your car sounds or how abnoxious it is because of how loud it is, haha. I just don't want to get something, spend a ton of money and then be embarrased at how carppy it sounds, but I have to replace my mid pipe because my cats are rattling, i think the heat shield is getting loose. This is gonna be a tough decission! Tradde, how far away are you from Bmore? I might take a weekend drive up to listen some time.

LOL, I didn't mean you since you said you had heard them. I meant the
original poster. That is the problem with exhaust sound. You'll never
get consensus on what sounds good or bad. Everyone likes what they
like. That is why I said I'd let him hear mine if he lived closer. It's always
good to hear for real instead of someones opinion whether good or bad.

Mapquest says about 2 hours. How fast do you drive?

Sounds like a nice drive with the top down, I'd love to come by and check it out, I just don't want to go through spending the time and money and hate it! You busy this weekend?

Not that I know of. But like you said it's 4 or so hours and if you don't like the
sound it's wasted time. Maybe I can record a wave file and send it to you
instead. I'll have to see if I have something that I can take with me that
records sound. That way you would hear it as I hear it.

I'll see what I can do. As a buddy pointed out, lots of times these recordings still don't sound as good as hearing it in person.
