Might lose another finger

Best of luck with everything.

I'm curious - do you think it is more from beating on things with your hand/fist or from the jackhammering effect from holding pneumatic tools?
IMHO opinion I think it's from using the palm of my hand to beat stuff, but the intense vibrations of impacts a close 2nd. Maybe it has to do with the way my hand is ( genetically) cause I know of no one else personally who has this, tho I've read ( internet) and heard about a lot of people in mechanical/industrial trades who encounter this but:shrug: Did the Angiogram yesterday, boy was I doped up:drool: Doctors visit today, I hope he can provide me a plan of action, I know I must continue my battle against nicotine cause that doesn't help, I quit for 5 months then slowly started again:mad:

oh wow, best of luck to you man.

I'm a fellow wrench-turner myself. I've only been doing it as a job for 4 months now but I've seen the other techs that are older and you can tell the trade has taken it's toll on them. Using impacts can mess you up after a while.

it pays to take care of your body. If you're trying too hard...usually you're not using the right tool.

I think about this time every time Im at work but ultimately I dont have much choice. Gotta use the impact. I try not to smash things with my hand like I used to though. Sometimes Ill do it and not think of it, then Ill remember your original post? How long were you a tech before this started? Ive been in the business 5 years now. I put my arm through thick security plate glass a few years ago and destroyed whatever nerves trasnmit the sensation to most of the fingers on my right hand. So it can be done, just dont do it the way I did. I have a feeling there were more stitches involved the way it happened to me. And a lot more blood loss. Good luck.

I started working on cars in 1979 at a trans shop, I still have the original set of Matco swivel sockets to remove bellhousing bolts, about 26 yrs, mostly doing custom exhaust, brakes, suspension, and under car stuff.

I hope this works out ok for you. The thought of losing ANY part of my body seems terrifying. Losing my pinky would seem like losing a life long buddy. I think we all take what we have for granted until we lose something.

Have you gone through all the treatments they describe here? Raynaud's phenomenon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The one about the asorbic acid looked kind of interesting. If it were me, I'd be trying every thing I could find no matter how stupid it seemed to keep my fingers.

I've been on sildenafil, and daily aspirin, fish oil, healthier diet change, they shot me up with nitro glycerin the other day and Im trying to have a " don't give a crap" attitude to avoid stress but that's hard. I would like to move to Florida to stay in warmer climes :D Not looking forward to the upcoming cold.

I have spent a good bit of time out west and the lack of humidity is worth its weight in gold. Even the AZ/NV/southern UT/CO heat is barable IMHO to the crap humidity we have here. That humidity also works in reverse in the winter making the cold that much more of a "bite".

Is there any kind of glove/wrap that would help keep pressure in/on that area to help blood flow? Any kind of blood thinner to help circ. blood easier?
