Does anyone make a mini starter for an early model Mustang? I am looking for a one wire hookup like the stock starter. I tried a late model Ford racing starter but it did not last very long. I wired it with the main cable directly to the battery and the small wire was connected to where the original main starter cable was located on the solenoid. It worked, but the starter died within 6 months and yes.... I searched the forums but came up empty. I either wired it wrong or it was a piece of junk. Any suggestions?

Try using a starter from a 91+ 5.0
Tons of starting torque but still very compact.

You can buy a starter with a lifetime warranty. It's a natural for a classic car. Take advantage of the warranty!

Welcome to the world of longtubes dude. Lifetime warranties are nice from autozone, but they are ungoldy heavy for a stocker, and pricey for a stock 5.0 unit. You can get mini starters online for about 79 -99 bucks. Just make sure you throw on some heat shield if you want it to last.

go out and get a starter from mean green industries or powermaster. they are superior to the ford racing starter. i had one from mean green in my F250 and never had a problem with it.
